Liquefied anhydrous ammonia
Warning -- This standard does not indicate all possible safety issues. The user has

anhydrous ammonia is highly toxic and is corrosive to the skin, mucous membrane
and eyes. Contacting liquefied anhydrous ammonia can cause severe burns. It shall
have proper protection during the operation.
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, mark,
storage, transportation and safety requirements for liquefied anhydrous ammonia.
This Standard is mainly applicable to the liquefied anhydrous ammonia (liquefied ammonia
for short) which is prepared by the direct catalyzed synthesis of hydrogen and nitrogen
under the condition of high temperature and high pressure. The Standard is also suitable
for the products which are produced by other processes.
2 Normative references

6.4 Determination of the results
6.4.1 In this standard, the qualification evaluation of product quality indicators adopts the
“round-off comparison method” in GB/T 8170-2008.
6.4.2 If one indicator of the test results does not meet the requirements of this Standard, it
shall conduct re-sampling and re-inspection. For the results of re-inspection, the whole
batch of products shall be the non-conforming products, even if there is only one indicator
which does not meet the requirements of this Standard.
6.4.3 The quality certificate shall be attached to each batch of the delivered products,
including the name of the enterprise, address, product name, grade, batch number or
tanker number, date of manufacture, net content or number of the products, and the
number of this Standard. It shall also be attached with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS or

7.1 The steel cylinder or tanker for filling the liquefied ammonia shall comply with the
relevant provisions of TSG R001, TSG R0005 and TSG R4002. The allowable weight filling
coefficient is 0.53kg/L. The steel cylinders or the tanker shall have the purification
treatments such as water-washing and drying at regular intervals.
7.2 The steel cylinder of oxygen or chlorine gas and all copper-containing vessels must not
be used to fill liquefied ammonia.
7.3 For the tanker which is filled with liquefied ammonia for the first time, it shall have the
treatment of vacuuming or the nitrogen-charge-replacement. The vessel which has
previously been filled with liquefied ammonia shall be air-exhausted before the filling. The
evacuation steps shall be according to the provisions in TSG R4002.
7.4 The outer-wall of the steel cylinder and tanker which are filled with the liquefied
ammonia shall be painted with yellow paint.
7.5 It shall be according to the "toxic gas" in GB 190 to mark.
