This document was drafted in accordance with the rules provided in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives

This document is Part 3 of GB/T 5008 Lead-acid Starter Batteries. GB/T 5008 has issued the
following parts:

---Part 3: Kinds of Products and Specifications and Dimensions and Marking of Terminals
for Heavy Vehicles.
This document modifies and adopts IEC 60095-4:2021 Lead-acid Starter Batteries - Part 4:
Dimensions of Batteries for Heavy Vehicles.
In comparison with IEC 60095-4:2021, there are many structural adjustments. A comparison of
structural No. changes between the two documents is shown in Appendix A.
In comparison with IEC 60095-4:2021, there are many technical differences. The clauses
involved are marked with a single vertical line () in the outer margin. A list of these technical
differences and their causes is shown in Appendix B.
This document makes the following editorial modifications:
---In order to coordinate with the existing standards, the title of the Standard is modified
into Lead-acid Starter Batteries - Part 3: Kinds of Products and Specifications and

1 Scope
This document specifies the dimensions and model designation, terminal polarity marking,
battery model and classification, and battery terminal dimensions of lead-acid starter batteries
for heavy vehicles (hereinafter referred to as the batteries).
This document is applicable to vented (liquid-rich) batteries and valve-controlled (with gas
composite function) batteries with a rated voltage of 12 V, and used for the starting, ignition
and illumination of various types of heavy-duty vehicles, tractors and other internal combustion
engines.
This document does not apply to batteries used for other purposes, for example, batteries for
starting heavy vehicles of railway internal combustion engines.
2 Normative References
The contents of the following documents constitute indispensable clauses of this document
through the normative references in the text. In terms of references with a specified date, only
versions with a specified date are applicable to this document. In terms of references without a

4 Common Characteristics
4.1 Marking of Batteries
The marking of the batteries shall comply with the stipulations of GB/T 5008.1.
4.2 Terminal Polarity Marking of Batteries
The terminal polarity marking of the batteries shall comply with the stipulations of GB/T
5008.2.
4.3 Marking of Battery Slot and Cover Materials
The marking of battery slot and cover materials shall comply with the stipulations of GB/T
5008.1.
4.4 Dimensions and Structure of Batteries
The dimensions of the batteries are expressed in (mm). In this document, “Figure” refers to
schematic diagram, and there are no requirements for the shape of the battery slot and cover,
the handle, ribs, lower fixation shape and exhaust hole position.
4.5 Terminal Dimensions of Batteries
The terminal dimensions of the batteries shall comply with the stipulations of GB/T 5008.2.
4.6 Suggestions for New Vehicle Accessories
For future new developments of heavy-duty vehicles, it is advisable to use only the battery
models in this document. The battery models are classified in accordance with Europe, North
America and East Asia.
5 European Series
5.1 Overview
This product is applicable to batteries used in Europe. The series is codenamed “EU”. Four
types are included in the series.
5.2 Battery Fixation
The battery is fixed through the upper fixation.
5.3 Terminal Configuration and Polarity
The transverse arrangement and polarity position of the battery terminals shall comply with the

GB/T 5008 "Lead-acid starter batteries" is divided into three parts.
-- Part 1.Lead-acid starter batteries-technical conditions;
-- Part 2.Lead-acid starter batteries-Kinds of products and specifications;

This Part is the Part 3 of GB/T 5008.
Compared with GB/T 5008.3-1991, the main changes of this Part are as follows.

1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 5008 specifies the dimension and marking of the positive and negative
terminals of the lead-acid starting battery.
This Part is applicable to the exhaust (flooded) type lead-acid batteries (hereinafter referred to
as batteries) and valve-regulated batteries (with gas recombination function) with 12V rated
voltage and used for starting, ignition and illumination of various automobiles, tractor and
other internal-combustion engines.
This Part is not applicable to batteries used for other purpose, for example starter batteries for
railway internal-combustion engines.

1 Subject Contents and Applicable Scope
This Standard specifies the dimension and marking of the positive and negative
terminals of the lead-acid starter batteries.
This Standard is applicable to the lead-acid battery (hereinafter referred to as battery),
dry charged battery, wet charged battery, and maintenance-free battery with rated
voltage of 6V and 12V for the starting, ignition and lighting of various automobiles,
tractors and other internal combustion engines.
This Standard is inapplicable to the batteries for other purposes, for instance, battery
for the starting of the railway internal combustion locomotive.
2 Dimension of Terminal
2.1 The dimension of conical terminal can refer to Table 1 and Figure 1.
