Preface
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents"
Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 462-2008 "Determination of Moisture in Analysis Samples of Paper, Board and Pulp" and is consistent with GB/T 462-2008.
In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Changed the scope and added the content of cellulose nanomaterials (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2008 edition);
b) Added the definitions of nanoscale, cellulose nanomaterials and absolute dry content (see 3.1, 3.2 and 3.5);
c) Changed the definition of constant weight (see 3.3, 3.2 of the.2008 edition);
d) The requirements for the graduation value of the balance have been changed (see 5.1, 5.1 of the.2008 edition);
e) Changed the content and presentation of sampling (see Chapter 7, Chapter 7 of the.2008 edition);
f) Added sample preparation (see Chapter 8);
g) The test procedure has been changed (see 9.1.1, 8.2 of the.2008 version);
h) Added test steps for cellulose nanomaterial suspension (see 9.2);
i) Added the calculation of absolute dry matter content (see 10.2);

This document has been modified to adopt ISO 287.2017 "Drying method for determination of moisture content in batches of paper and paperboard", ISO 638-
1.2022 "Determination of absolute dry content of paper, cardboard, pulp and cellulose nanomaterials by oven drying method - Part 1.Solid materials" and
ISO 638-2.2022 "Determination of absolute dry content of paper, cardboard, pulp and cellulose nanomaterials by oven drying method - Part 2.Cellulose nanomaterials

Compared with ISO 287.2017, ISO 638-1.2022 and ISO 638-2.2022, this document has many structural adjustments. 4 texts

The technical differences between this document and ISO 287.2017, ISO 638-1.2022 and ISO 638-2.2022 and their reasons are as follows.
a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1) to comply with the drafting rules of my country’s standardization documents;
b) The definition of constant weight has been changed (see 3.3) to correspond to the content in the test steps;
c) ISO 186 (see 7.1) was replaced with normatively cited GB/T 450 to adapt to my country’s technical conditions;
d) Replaced ISO 7213 (see 7.1) with normatively cited GB/T 740 to adapt to my country's technical conditions;
e) The sample preparation method has been changed (see Chapter 8), and the content of Chapter 8 in ISO 287.2017 has been simplified to make the standard content easier to operate.

1 Scope
This document describes a method for the determination of moisture in paper, board, pulp and cellulosic nanomaterials after sampling using the oven drying method.
This document applies to paper, cardboard, pulp and cellulose nanomaterials, but these analytical specimens do not contain moisture other than the specified test temperature.
Any substance that can evaporate at low temperatures.
This document does not apply to the determination of liquid slurry moisture, or the determination of the sales quality of batches of slurry packages.

Paper, board and pulp - Determination of moisture content
of analytical sample
1 Scope
This standard specifies a method for determining the moisture content of paper, board,
pulp after sampling.
This standard applies to all kinds of paper, board, pulp; however, these paper, board,
pulp shall not contain any substances other than moisture, which can volatilize at the
specified test temperature.
This method is not applicable to the determination of the moisture content of liquid
pulp, OR the determination of the sales quality of batches of pulp bales.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1
Moisture content
Moisture content in paper, board, pulp. In fact, it is the ratio -- of the mass which is
reduced after the specimen is dried according to the specified method TO the mass
at the time of sampling. Usually, it is expressed as a percentage.
3.2
Constant weight
When the specimens of paper, board, pulp are dried at a specific temperature, until
the difference in the mass of the specimen in two consecutive weighings does not
exceed 0.1% of the mass of the specimen before drying, it reaches the constant
weight.
4 Principle
Weigh the mass of the specimen before drying. Then dry the specimen to a constant
weight. Weigh the mass again. The ratio -- of the difference between the mass of the
specimen before and after drying TO the mass before drying -- is the moisture content
of the specimen.
5 Instruments
5.1 Balance: The sensitivity is 0.0001 g.
5.2 Specimen container: It is used for specimen transfer and weighing. The container
shall be made of lightweight material, which is resistant to water vapor AND does not
change easily under test conditions.
5.3 Oven: The temperature can be kept at 105 °C ± 2 °C.
5.4 Dryer.
6 Preparation of the container
A sufficient number of clean and dry containers shall be numbered and equilibrated, in
atmosphere, prior to sampling; then each container shall be weighed and capped, until
the specimen is loaded.
7 Sampling
Sampling shall be carried out, in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 740 and GB/T
450.
Note: If the sampling place is warm and humid, it shall avoid the contamination of the sample
or the loss of moisture. It is best to wear rubber gloves when operating. In order to avoid changes
in the moisture content of the samples, due to exposure to the atmosphere, the samples shall be
packed into containers, immediately after sampling.
