This Part of GB/T 3903 identically adopts the International Standard ISO 20864.2004
“Footwear - Test methods for stiffeners and toepuffs - Mechanical characteristics”
(English version).
For easy use, this Part has the following editorial modifications.
a) DELETE the foreword of the International Standard;
b) DELETE the table of content of the International Standard;
c) USE the decimal point “.” to replace the comma “,” used as the decimal point;
d) for the EU standards referenced in ISO 20864.2004, this Part directly reference
the corresponding national standards;
e) DELETE the annex of the International Standard.
This Part was proposed by China Light Industry Council.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Footwear
of Standardization Administration of China.

Mechanical characteristics
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 3903 specifies three methods for determining the shape retention
properties and compression strength of a domed test specimen.
This Part is applicable to footwear toepuff and stiffener, these methods are the
following.
- Method 1. Applicable to heat activated materials;
- Method 2. Applicable to solvent activated materials;
- Method 3. Applicable to non-thermoplastic fibreboard.
NOTE. Although it is usual to determine both the shape retention properties and the
compression strength of a domed test specimen, either can be determined alone by carrying
out the procedures relating to the respective property.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part through
reference in this Part of GB/T 3903. For dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however,
parties who reach an agreement based on this Part are encouraged to study if the
latest versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest
edition of the referenced document applies.
