Test methods of hydrogen emission for fuel cell engine
1 Scope
This standard specifies test methods of hydrogen emission for vehicle fuel cell
engines.
This standard applies to vehicle proton exchange membrane fuel cell engines.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential for the application of this document. For
dated references, only the dated version applies to this document. For undated
references, the latest version (including all amendments) applies to this
document.

4 Measurement conditions
4.1 Fuel cell engine requirements
Fuel cell engine shall meet the following requirements.
5.1.2 Test methods
Test methods shall meet the following requirements.
a) Select 11 operating points within the range of fuel cell engine operating,
including idle state, 10%PE, 20%PE, 30%PE, 40%PE, 50%PE, 60%PE,
70%PE, 80%PE, 90%PE, PE;
b) The fuel cell engine carries out heating engine, after the process of
heating engine finishes, return to idle state and operate for 10s;
c) Load to pre-determined operating points according to the specified
loading method, and at least continuously and stably operate for 3
minutes at each operating point;
d) The time duration of analyzing data for each operating point cannot be
less than 2 minutes.
Note. PE --- rated power.
5.1.3 Data measured and recorded during the test
Data measured during the test. hydrogen flow, fuel cell stack voltage, fuel cell
stack current, etc.
5.1.4 Test result processing
Conduct test result processing for the actual hydrogen consumption of fuel cell
stack, the theoretical hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack, hydrogen
emission load, and hydrogen emission rate according to the methods provided
in Appendix A.
5.2 Hydrogen emission load test under cycle conditions
5.2.1 Test conditions
Before the test, fuel cell engine is in hot state, and the heating engine method
is performed according to the method specified in GB/T 24554. The test
process shall be conducted automatically and there shall be no manual
intervention.
5.2.2 Test methods
The test is carried out as follows.
a) The fuel cell engine carries out heating engine, after the process of
heating engine finishes, return to idle state and operate for 10s;
T1 - Start time, in seconds (s);
T2 - End time, in seconds (s).
The theoretical hydrogen flow is calculated according to Faraday's formula.
Where.
qH2_theo - The theoretical hydrogen flow of fuel cell stack, in grams per
second (g/s);
M - Hydrogen molar mass, 2.016 g/mol;
I - Fuel cell stack current, in Ampere (A);
N - The single-cell number of fuel cell stack;
n -The number of electrons released by each hydrogen molecule, 2;
F - Faraday constant, 96485 C/mol.
A.3 Hydrogen emission load
The hydrogen emitted by fuel cell stack during a certain period of time is
calculated according to formula (A.4).
Where.
mH2_emis - The mass of the emitted hydrogen, in grams (g);
mH2 - The measured hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack, in grams (g);
mH2_theo - The theoretical consumption mass of hydrogen, in grams (g).
A.4 Hydrogen emission rate
The hydrogen emission rate of fuel cell stack during a certain period of time is
calculated according to formula (A.5).
Where.
bH2_emis - Hydrogen emission rate, in grams per kWh [g/(kWꞏh)];
