Textiles - Determination of deodorant property -
Part 3: Gas chromatography method
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 33610 specifies the method for determining the deodorization
performance of textiles by gas chromatograph.
This part applies to the determination of indole, isovaleric acid and 2-nonenal
in various textile products.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.
GB/T 6529 Textiles - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing
(GB/T 6529-2008, ISO 139:2005, MOD)
3 Principle
Add the odorous substance to the container without contact with the sample.
After the sample has been in contact with the odorous gas for a specified period
of time, use a gas chromatograph (GC) to measure the concentration of
odorous gas in the container with and without the sample. Calculate the
reduction rate of the concentration of odor chemical components; test each
odor chemical component separately.
4 Reagent
4.1 Indole (C8H7N): Analytically pure, CAS number: 120-72-9.
4.2 Isovaleric acid (C5H10O2): Purity is 98.0%, CAS number: 503-74-2.
4.3 2-nonenal (C9H16O): Purity is 95.0%, CAS number: 18829-56-6.
4.4 Dilution gas: Nitrogen with a purity of 99.99% and above.
Prepare six 500 mL glass conical flasks (5.1), of which 3 are used for sample
testing and the other 3 are used for blank testing. Each odor chemical
composition is tested separately.
7.2.2 Clean the conical flask
Use nitrogen or clean air larger than 5 times the volume of the conical flask to
purge the conical flask.
7.2.3 Prepare odor solution Indole
Accurately weigh 20 g of indole (4.1) in a volumetric flask (5.2) and use ethanol
(4.5) to dilute it to the mark. Isovaleric acid
Accurately weigh 20 g of isovaleric acid (4.2) in a volumetric flask (5.2) and use
ethanol (4.5) to dilute it to the mark. 2-nonenal
Accurately weigh 10 g of 2-nonenal (4.3) in a volumetric flask (5.2) and use
ethanol (4.5) to dilute it to the mark.
7.2.4 Sample test Specimen preparation
Take 3 specimens from the samples as specified in Table 1 for testing of a
chemical composition of odor. Placing of specimen
Spread each specimen flat on the bottom of the conical flask (5.1). Nitrogen purge
Blow 1000 mL of nitrogen (4.4) into the conical flask to remove the air inside.
Use the sealing film (5.3) to seal the bottle mouth. Injection of odorous solution
Use a syringe (5.4) to take 5 μL of the odorous solution prepared in steps, or Inject it along the inner wall of the conical flask through the
sealing film. The odorous solution shall not touch the specimen. Sealing of pinhole
Use the sealing film (5.3) to seal the pinhole on the original sealing film. Exposure time
Let stand for 2 h under the standard atmospheric conditions specified in GB/T
Note: According to negotiation, it can be left standing under other test conditions, but
it needs to be noted in the report.
7.2.5 Blank test
Repeat steps ~ without placing the specimen in the conical flask.
7.2.6 Sampling of test gas After 2 h of exposure, hold the mouth of the conical flask and shake the
conical flask with or without the specimen vigorously for about 20 times within
20 s. Insert the gas-tight injection needle (5.5) into the center of the sealing
film at the mouth of the conical flask about 4 cm vertically. Use a gas-tight injection needle to extract the gas to be tested in the
conical flask.
Determine the sampling volume of the gas to be tested according to the type of
gas chromatograph used.
Note: When the gas-tight injection needle is used repeatedly, it is recommended to
aspirate the gas-tight injection needle several times before use to avoid the
interference of residual gas.
7.3 Determination of gas concentration by gas chromatography
7.3.1 General
Inject the tested gas as prepared in step 7.2 into the gas chromatograph (5.7).
Use a flame ionization detector (FID) or a mass selective detector (MSD) to
determine the concentration of odorous gas. The peak area of the
chromatographic peak is directly proportional to the concentration of odorous
Note: See Appendix B for gas chromatography parameters.
7.3.2 Peak area of specimen
Appendix C
Comparison test results
C.1 Comparison test
C.1.1 Summary
According to this method, test the peak area with and without the specimen.
Calculate the concentration reduction rate (ORR) of odorous chemical
