Foreword
GB/T 3286 "Method for chemical analysis of limestone and dolomite" is divided
into nine parts.
- Part 1.The determination of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide content -
The complexometric titration method and the flame atomic absorption
spectrometric method;
- Part 2.The determination of silicon dioxide content - The silicomolybdic
blue spectrophotometric method and the perchloric acid dehydration
gravimetric method
- Part 3.The determination of aluminum oxide content - The chrome azurol
S spectrophotometric method and the complexometric titration method
- Part 4.The determination of iron oxide content - The o-phenanthroline
spectrophotometric method and the flame atomic absorption spectrometric
method;
- Part 5.The determination of manganese oxide content - The periodate
oxidation spectrophotometric method
- Part 6.The determination of phosphorus content - The phosphomolybdate
blue spectrophotometric method
- Part 7.The determination of sulfur content - The pipe furnace combustion
iodic acid potassium titration method, the high frequency combustion with
infrared absorption method and the barium sulfate gravimetric method
- Part 8.The determination of loss on ignition - The gravimetric method
- Part 9.The determination of carbon dioxide content - The caustic asbestos
absorption gravimetric method
This part is Part 8 of GB/T 3286.
This part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This part replaces GB/T 3286.8-1998 "Chemical analysis of limestone and
dolomite - The molybdenum blue photometric method for determination of
phosphorus".
Compared with GB/T 3286.8-1998, the main technical changes in this part are
as follows.
- CHANGE the standard name to "Method for chemical analysis of limestone
and dolomite - Part 8.The determination of loss on ignition - The gravimetric
method";
- In the normative references, CANCEL the reference standard year number,
and ADD some references;
- CONDUCT a common test of precision between laboratories; USE the
repeatability limit r and the reproducibility limit R obtained by statistics to
replace the “allowable difference”;
- MODIFY some textual expressions.
This part was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association.
This part shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Steel Standardization
Technical Committee (SAC/TC 183).
Drafting organizations of this part. Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Company,
Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Research Institute.
The main drafters of this part. Wen Xiangdong, Shao Mei, Chen Shihua, Zhou
Zheng, Zhang Suizhong, Cao Hongyan, Yu Weihua, Qiu Jinhui, Gao Jianping,
Wang Jiangwei.
This standard replaces the standard previously issued as follows.
- GB/T 3286.8-1982, GB/T 3286.10-1988, GB/T 3286.8-1998.
Method for chemical analysis of limestone and
dolomite - Part 8.The determination of loss on
ignition - The gravimetric method
Warning. The personnel using this part shall have formal laboratory work
experience. This part does not point out all possible security issues. The
user is responsible for taking appropriate safety and health measures and
ensuring compliance with the conditions stipulated by relevant national
laws and regulations.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 3286 specifies the gravimetric method to determine the loss
on ignition.
This part applies to the determination of loss on ignition in limestone and
dolomite; it also applies to the determination of loss on ignition in metallurgical
lime.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.
GB/T 2007.2 General rules for the sampling and sample preparation of
minerals in bulk. Sample preparation by manual method
GB/T 6379.2 Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods
and results - Part 2.Basic method for the determination of repeatability and
reproducibility of a standard measurement method
3 Principles
The sample is placed in a platinum crucible; the temperature is gradually
increased to 1050 °C ± 50 °C in a high temperature furnace to burn it to a
constant mass. The reduced mass is the loss on ignition.
4 Instruments
In the analysis, only the usual laboratory instruments and equipment are used.
5 Sample preparation
5.1 Prepare specimen according to GB/T 2007.2.
5.2 The specimen shall be processed to a particle size less than 0.125 mm.
6 Analytical procedures
6.1 Number of determinations
For the same specimen (5.3 or 5.4), make at least 2 independent
determinations.
6.2 Sample mass
Weigh 1.00 g of sample, accurate to 0.0001 g. For metallurgical lime, the
sample shall be quickly weighed.
6.3 Determination
6.3.1 Spread the sample (6.2) flat in a platinum crucible (including a platinum
cover) that has been burned and weighed at 1050 °C.
6.3.4 Place the platinum crucible and platinum lid in the high-temperature
furnace again. Burn them at 1050 °C ± 50 °C for 15 min. Continue operation
according to 6.3.3, until the difference between the two consecutive weighing
does not exceed 1.0 mg.
7 Calculation and expression of analytical results
7.1 Calculation of analytical results
Calculate the mass fraction of loss on ignition according to formula (1).
8 Precision
8.1 Limestone and dolomite
The precision data is determined in 2012 by 8 laboratories on the loss on
ignition of 5 different levels of samples of limestone and dolomite. The loss on
ignition for each level is independently measured 3 times under the repeated
conditions by each laboratory.
8.2 Metallurgical lime
Table 2 shows the allowable difference in laboratory precision of metallurgical
lime samples. For metallurgical lime, there is no requirement for the allowable
difference between laboratories.
8.3 Description
The mass fraction of loss on ignition is between the values given in Table 1 and
Table 2.The repeatability limit r, reproducibility limit R, the allowable difference
in the laboratory can be obtained by linear interpolation.
9 Test report
The test report shall include the following.
