Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of the National
Standardization Technical Committee on Packaging (SAC/TC 49).

General Technical Requirements of Reusable Boxes
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the categories, requirements and marking of reusable boxes.
This Standard applies to reusable boxes made of the main materials such as paper,
plastics, wood, metal and biomaterials.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions and those defined
in GB/T 16716.4 and GB/T 23156 apply.
5.2 Reuse
5.2.1 Reusable boxes can be used in reusable systems; reusable systems can be
divided into closed-loop systems, open systems and mixed systems in accordance
with the specifications of GB/T 16716.4.
5.2.2 Properties of reusable boxes newly adopted in reusable systems shall not be
lower than the standard requirements of the category of products. For example,
properties of plastic containers shall not be lower than the requirements of BB/T 0043.
5.2.3 Reusable boxes recycled shall be sorted, washed and maintained.
5.2.4 Reusable boxes re-enter into reusable systems shall be free from damages
affecting their function and use; their properties shall not be lower than the standard
requirements of the category of products.
5.3 Exit and disposal
5.3.1 In one of the following situations, reusable boxes exit from reusable systems.
-- they have any damage that is beyond repair and affects function and use;
-- their properties are lower than the standard requirements for the category of
products; and
-- systems are unable to identify them.
5.3.2 Boxes exiting from reusable systems shall be disposed as appropriate. Those
suitable for material recycling shall be disposed in accordance with the specifications
of GB/T 16716.5; those suitable for energy recycling shall be disposed in accordance
with the specifications of GB/T 16716.6; and those suitable for composting and
biodegradation shall be disposed in accordance with GB/T 16716.7.
5.4 Environmental protection
5.4.1 Materials selected for reusable boxes shall meet the national environmental
protection policies and relevant regulations; no packaging materials shall be used that
are hazardous to the environment and human body or that have been banned by the
State.
5.4.2 Total content of heavy metals in reusable boxes shall meet the specifications
of GB/T 16716.1. In the event of irreplaceable use, hazardous chemicals should be
operated under foreseeable conditions at an appropriate level to reduce the
environmental impact of recycling or eventual disposal of packaging wastes.
