3 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this document, terms and definitions in GB/T 4199-2003 and GB/T 6930-2002 and the following ones apply. 3.1 Nominal ball diameter Diameter value which is used for identification of a ball size. Note. Nominal ball diameters are the standard sizes for ball diameters of all nominal sizes (standard diameters), which can be rounded with 4 decimal places. 3.2 Single ball diameter Distance between two parallel planes tangential to actual surface of the ball. 3.3 Mean ball diameter Arithmetic mean value of the largest single diameter and the smallest single diameter of a ball. 3.4 Variation of ball diameter The difference between the largest and smallest of the single diameters of a ball. [GB/T 6930-2002, definitions 05.04.04]

6 Technical requirements

6.1 Material and heat treatment The materials listed in table 2 are widely used for steel balls. Steel ball material and heat treatment shall generally fulfill the standard specified in table 2.If other kinds of material is used for manufacturing steel balls, the material and heat treatment quality can also be determined by customer and manufacturer through negotiation. 6.2 Hardness and crush load The steel ball hardness shall fulfill specification in table 3.The crush load for ball with diameters of 3mm ~ 50.8mm shall not be less than the value specified in table 3. 6.3 Tolerance grade According to size tolerance, form tolerance, gauge and surface roughness of manufacturing, steel ball can be divided into eleven grades as 3, 5, 10, 16, 20, 24, 28, 40, 60, 100, and 200; accuracy is from high to low sequentially. 6.4 Geometrical form and surface quality The geometrical form and surface quality requirements for steel ball of each tolerance grade are as follows. 6.5 Sorting tolerance and ball gauge 6.7 Miscellaneous requirements If there is special requirement for steel ball, it can be determined by customer and manufacturer through negotiation.

7 Measurement and inspection method

7.1 For measurement of single steel ball diameter Dws and variation of diameter VDws, steel ball shall be placed between instrument probe and the plane which is vertical to instrument probe axis. When VDws is measured, steel ball shall be rotated to change the measured parts. The maximum difference indicated by measurement instrument is VDws. 7.2 Measurement of deviation from spherical form shall be carried out according to the specification of annex C. 7.6 Residual magnetism measurement shall be carried out according to the specification of JB/T 6641-2007. 7.7 Appearance quality is usually verified by vision inspection under astigmatism light. 7.8 Crack inspection shall be carried out according to the specification of GB/T 24606-2009.

8 Inspection rules

Inspection rules shall meet the specifications of GB/T 24608-2009. 9.1 Marking content 9.2 Marking method The content in clause 9.1 shall be marked on ordering list, qualification certificate, and the places where need; there shall be a blank space between each marking items. 9.3 Marking example Example 1.GCr15 8.334 38 (or 8.334 4) G 10 +4 (+4.2) GB/T 308.1-2013 It represents high carbon chromium bearing steel ball which complies with GB/T 308.1-2013 with nominal diameter of 8.334 38 mm, tolerance grade of 10, gauge of +4 μm, and + 4.2 μm deviation of a ball lot from ball dimension.

10 Packaging and storing

10.1 Packaging After being tested and proved to be qualified, finished steel balls shall be treated against rust and packaged according to specification of GB/T 8597-2013. Balls of different size, different tolerance grade, different material and different gauge as well as subgauge shall be packaged in different containers (boxes); mixed packing is forbidden. 10.2 Storage After being treated against rust and packaged, the balls shall be guaranteed that they will not rust within one year after being delivered from factory under the transportation and storage conditions as specified by GB/T 8597-2013. ......
