This Standard replaces GB/T 2983-1997, "Series of Motorcycle Tyres"
The main differences between this Standard and GB/T 2983-1997 are.
——The explanations for ply ratings, speed symbols and load indexes are added in the
example for the specifications marking of motorcycle tyres in the code-designated series
(3.1.1 of 1997 edition and 5.1 of this edition);
——Specifications for some of the reinforced and weighted motorcycle tyres in the
code-designated series as well as those for low sections 4.10 and 4.60 are added (Tables 1 and
10 of 1997 edition and Tables 1 and 2 of this edition);
——The small-wheel-diameter series in the former standard has been included into the
code-designated series (Table 10 of 1997 edition and Table 2 of this edition);
——The designation method for specifications of tyres of metric series in difference
structures (bias-ply tyres, bias-belted tyres and radial tyres) and with different speeds are
added (3.2.1 of 1997 edition and 5.2 of this edition);
——Some of the permitted rims specified in the requirements of permitted rim contours
for motorcycle tyres in code-designated series are modified (Table 2 of 1997 edition and Table
3 of this edition);
——The specifications of metric tyres of the 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 55 and 50 series are
supplemented with those for the motorcycle tyres of 65 and 40 series with the nominal rim
diameter being greater than or equal to 13 and for the motorcycle tyres of 70 and 60 series
with such diameter being less than or equal to 12 (Tables 3 and 4 of 1997 edition and Tables 5,
6 and 7 of this edition);
——The maximum overall width of section in service of bias belted tyres and radial
tyres are added (Table 3 of 1997 edition and Tables 5 and 6 of this edition);
——The explanations that “the bracketed rims in the tables of permitted rim contours are
applicable only to the motorcycle tyres with bias-ply and bias-belted structures” are added,
and some of the permitted rims are modified (Table 5 of 1997 edition and Table 8 of this
edition);
——The inflation pressures, load indexes and corresponding load capacity values for
high-speed tyres specified in the table of specifications and dimensions of the former standard
are deleted, and table of inflation pressures corresponding to different speeds of tyres under
their maximum loads is added (Table 3 of 1997 edition and Table 9 of this edition);
——The calculation method for tolerance of tyre dimensions is modified (4.5 of 1997
edition and Tables 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 of this edition);
——The speed symbols V and W are added into the table of speed symbols
corresponding to the maximum speeds; and the requirements for the load capacity variations
of motorcycle tyres with the rim diameter ≤ 12 and the speed symbol of K or L and those for
such variations of motorcycle tyres with the speed ≥ 210km/h are added into the table of load
capacity variance ratio under different speeds; (Appendix A of 1997 edition and Appendix B
of this edition).
Appendix A of this Standard is informative, and Appendix B is normative.

Series of Motorcycle Tyres
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, designation method of
specifications mark and its additional marks, specifications, dimensions, pneumatic pressures,
and loads and rims of motorcycle tyres.
This Standard is applicable to the new pneumatic motorcycle tyres.
2 Normative References

constitute provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendments to
(excluding corrections to), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However,
all parties coming to agreements based on this Standard are encouraged to investigate the

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Standard, the terms and definitions established in GB/T 6326
apply.
4 Classification
4.1 Motorcycle tyres of code-designated series
Tyres in this series are applicable to the rims with the nominal diameter being 4 to 21.
As for the tyres with the nominal rim diameter larger than or equal to 14, the cylindrical
WM rims or 5° tapered MT rims shall be adopted.
As for the tyres with nominal rim diameter less than or equal to 12, the divided DT rims,
drop center DC rims or 5° tapered MT rims shall be adopted, with the maximum travel speed
being 100 km/h; such tyres should not be used for non-highway tasks, such as transporting
etc.

Note. The maximum dimensions in service in this table are reference data for service.
a If the design section width of tyre is less than 100mm, the tolerance of section width is ±4mm;
If the design section width of tyre is 100mm or above, the tolerance of section width is ± 4%;
b The maximum overall diameter of tyre = 2 × designed section height × 1.06 + nominal rim diameter;
The minimum overall diameter of tyre = 2 × designed section height × 0.94 + nominal rim diameter;
