Foreword
GB/T 25774 "Test methods for welding materials" consists of the following three parts:
- Part 1: Preparation and testing of deposited metal specimens for mechanical
properties in steel, nickel and nickel alloys;
- Part 2: Preparation of single-run and two-run technique test specimens in steel;
- Part 3: Preparation and testing of a fillet weld specimens for T-joint.
This Part is Part 1 of GB/T 25774 "Test methods for welding materials". It modified
and adopted ISO 15792-1:2000 "Welding materials - Test methods - Part 1: Test
methods for all-weld metal test specimens in steel, nickel and nickel alloys".
Considering the actual situation of the mechanical properties test of the deposited metal
of welding materials in China, when adopting ISO 15792-1:2000, the following
technical content modifications were made:
- Delete normative references ISO 5178, ISO 9016:2000 and ISO 13916:1996. Use
Chinese national standards that have equivalently adopted these ISO standards to
replace;
- Add 12 specimen types 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9;
- According to domestic practice in China, for the test pieces of type 1.0 and 1.1 in
ISO 15792-1, as well as the test pieces of types 2.2, 2.3, 2.7 and 2.8 added, use ϕ6mm
pull rods instead of ϕ8mm pull rods;
- In Chapter 4 "Test base material", add the requirements that the thickness of the
isolation layer is not less than 3mm;
- Specify the requirements for the dimensions of tensile and impact test specimens.
The following editorial modifications are also made in this Part:
- Change the standard’s name to "Test methods for welding materials - Part 1:
Preparation and testing of deposited metal specimens for mechanical properties in
steel, nickel and nickel alloys".
This Part was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical
Committee on Welding of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 55).

Test methods for welding materials - Part 1: Preparation
and testing of deposited metal specimens for mechanical
properties in steel, nickel and nickel alloys
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 25774 specifies preparation for deposited metal tensile specimens
and impact specimens of steel, nickel and nickel alloy welding materials, as well as
inspection methods.
This Part is applicable to determination of mechanical properties of welding materials
or other arc welding deposited metals for steel, nickel and nickel alloys.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part of GB/T
25774 through reference in this Part. For dated references, the subsequent amendments
(excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however, parties who
reach an agreement based on this Part are encouraged to study if the latest versions of
these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the
referenced document applies.

inter-pass temperature and preheat maintenance temperature (GB/T 18591-2001,
ISO 13916:1996, IDT)
3 General principle
The test welding materials shall be selected according to the requirements of the
relevant product standards. The tensile test specimens and impact test specimens for
deposited metal shall be prepared according to the following requirements.
4 Test base material
The base metal used for the test shall be consistent with the material used for the test of
the mechanical properties of the deposited metal required in the welding material
product standard. If other base metal is used, at least two isolation layers shall be welded
on the groove surface and the backing plate surface through the tested welding material.
The thickness of the isolation layer is not less than 3mm after machining, so as to ensure
minimal dilution.
5 Preparation of test piece
The test piece shall be prepared in the form of a V-groove with a backing plate. The
backing plate is fixedly welded on the back of the test piece, see Figure 1 and Table 1.
The test plate shall be deformed or restrained before welding, so as to prevent corner
deformation. The test piece is not allowed to be corrected after welding. The test pieces
with angular deformation exceeding 5° shall be discarded.
The dimensions of each type of test piece are shown in Table 1. The type of test piece
shall be selected according to the provisions of the relevant welding material product
standards.
6 Welding conditions
The test piece shall be prepared in the flat welding position. Welding in other positions
is permitted unless other positions are specified in the product standard for welding
materials.
When starting welding, the temperature of the test plate shall be heated to the preheating
temperature specified in the welding material product standard. Maintain inter-pass
temperature during welding. When the temperature of the test plate is exceeded, it shall
be cooled in a static atmosphere. Surface thermometer, temperature measuring pen or
thermocouple can be used for preheating temperature and inter-pass temperature.
Measure according to GB/T 18591. It is recommended that the surface of the
longitudinal center of the test piece at a distance of 25mm from the center of the weld
be used as the temperature measurement point.
The inter-pass temperature and welding specification are required by the welding
material product standard. If welding must be interrupted, the test panel shall be cooled
in a static atmosphere. When re-welding, the test panel shall be heated to the specified
inter-pass temperature.
