Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020
Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents.
This document replaces GB/T 2480-2008 Conventional abrasive - Silicon carbide.
Compared with GB/T 2480-2008, except for the structural adjustment and editorial
revisions, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) The scope of application is changed (see Chapter 1; see Chapter 1 of the 2008
edition);
b) The grades are changed (see Chapter 4; see Chapter 3 of the 2008 edition);
c) The chemical composition indexes are changed (see 5.1; see 4.1 of the 2008
edition);
d) The density indexes are changed (see 5.3; see 4.2 of the 2008 edition);
e) The magnetic substance content indexes are changed (see 5.5; see 4.5 of the
2008 edition);
f) The content of J-series abrasive fine powder is added (see 5.1, 5.3, and Table
3);
g) The requirements for marking, transportation, and storage are added (see
Chapter 8).

1 Scope
This document specifies the grade, technical requirements, test methods, inspection
rules, packaging, marking, transportation, and storage of silicon carbide abrasives.
This document applies to silicon carbide abrasives for manufacturing bonded abrasive
tools, coated abrasive tools, and for free grinding, polishing, and cutting.

Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 2480-1996 "ordinary silicon carbide abrasive."
This standard compared with GB/T 2480-1996, the main changes are as follows.
--- According to the current production level of technical quality of each product grade SiC, F. C, Fe2O3 content indicators are to be tightened moderately
(4.1 of this standard, the GB/T 2480-1996 4.1);
--- Increasing the chemical compositions of black silicon carbide powder products (this standard 4.1);
--- Grit size markers, composition and size detection method using a predetermined GB/T 2481 and GB/T 9258's;
--- Density indicators were segmented according to a predetermined size (4.2 of this standard, the GB/T 2480-1996 4.2);
--- Grain content of the ferroalloy division size segment have been adjusted (4.4 of this standard, the GB/T 2480-1996 4.4);
--- Of inspection rules were altered, into the factory inspection and quality supervision and inspection, and its contents have been revised and improved (this standard
