Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 246-2007 "Metal tube flattening test method", compared with the main technical changes in GB/T 246-2007
as follows.
---The name of the standard was changed to "Metal Material Tube Flattening Test Method";
--- Modified the expression of "scope" (see Chapter 1);
--- Table 1 and Figure 1 respectively increase the list of questions and map questions; modify the note in Table 1 wall thickness symbols (see Table 1, Figure 1);
--- Modify the expression of "Test Principle" (see Chapter 3);
--- Editorial changes made to the "test procedure" (see Chapter 6);
--- The original standard Chapter 7 d) "platen spacing" to "force under the pressure plate between two (H)".
This standard uses the translation method equivalent to the use of ISO 8492.2013 "metal material tube flattening test method."
This standard has made the following editorial changes.
--- Table 1 and Figure 1 increase the list of topics and questions.
This standard is proposed by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC183).
This standard was drafted by the People's Republic of China Changshu Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Zhejiang Jinzhou Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd., and the State.

Metal material tube flattening test method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the flattening test method for determining the plastic deformability of a round cross-section metal tube and can also be used to reveal its defects.
Except for the relevant product standards, this standard applies to metal pipes whose outer diameter does not exceed 600mm and whose wall thickness does not exceed 15% of the outer diameter.
2 symbols, names and units
The symbols, names, and units used in this standard are shown in Table 1 and Figure 1.
Table 1 Symbols, Names, and Units
Symbol name unit
Aa Wall thickness mm
b Internal width of the specimen after crushing mm
D Metal tube outer diameter mm
The distance between the two pressure plates under H force mm
L sample length mm
a The steel pipe standard also uses other symbols to indicate this parameter.
3 Test principle
Force flattening by applying force to a specified length of metal tube specimen or metal tube end specimen taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube.
[See Fig. 1a) and Fig. 1b)] until the distance between the two platens under the force has reached the value specified in the relevant product standard.
If closed, the width of the contact area on the inner surface of the specimen shall be at least half the width b of the specimen after normal collapse (see Figure 1c)].

4 test equipment
The tester shall be able to flatten the specimen to the distance H between the specified two parallel pressure plates. The platen should have sufficient rigidity.
The width of the platen should exceed the width of the flattened sample, ie at least 1.6D. The length of the platen should not be less than the length of the sample.
5 samples
5.1 The length L of the specimen shall not be less than 10mm, but not more than 100mm. The edge of the specimen is allowed to be rounded or otherwise rounded or
Chamfer.
Note. If the test results meet the test requirements, you can not round or chamfer the edge of the sample.
5.2 When testing on the pipe end of a full-length pipe, cut perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe at the length of the sample from the end face of the pipe and cut it.
The depth should be at least 80% of the outside diameter.
6 Test procedures
6.1 The test should generally be performed at a room temperature of 10°C to 35°C. For temperature-critical test, the test temperature should be 23°C±
5°C.
6.2 The sample is placed between two pressure plates.
6.3 Welds welded pipe should be placed in the position specified by the relevant product standards.
6.4 Move the pressure plate perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube to flatten it.
6.5 If in dispute, the platen's movement rate should not exceed 25mm/min.
6.6 The evaluation of the crush test results shall be based on the requirements of the relevant product standards. When not specified in the product standard, no magnifier is used
In the absence of visible cracks, it shall be assessed as acceptable. Only slight cracks at the corners of the specimen should not be used as a basis for rejection.
7 Test report
If applicable, test reports shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of relevant product standards. The test report should contain at least the following contents.
a) the standard number;
b) sample identification;
c) sample size;
d) The distance (H) between the two pressure plates under the force;
e) if welded pipe, the location of the weld;
f) Test results.
