Preface
GB/T 24242 "Non-alloy Steel Wire Rod for Wire Making" is divided into four parts.
---Part 1.General requirements;
---Part 2.General purpose wire rod;
---Part 3.Mild steel wire rods of rimmed steel and rimmed steel substitutes;
---Part 4.Special purpose wire rod.
This part is Part 2 of GB/T 24242.
This section was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This part replaces GB/T 24242.2-2009 "Non-alloy steel wire rod for wire making Part 2.General purpose wire rod".
Compared with GB/T 24242.2-2009, the main technical changes in this part are as follows except for editorial changes.
---Modified the mechanical performance requirements (see 4.3, 3.4 in the.2009 edition);
---Modified the requirements for the decarburization layer (see 4.4, 3.6.1 of the.2009 edition);
---Modified the microstructure requirements (see 4.5, 3.6.2 of the.2009 edition);
---Modified the central segregation requirements (see 4.6, 3.5 in the.2009 edition);
---Added the requirements for oxide scale (see 4.7);
---Modified the surface quality requirements (see 4.8, 3.3 in the.2009 edition).
This section uses the redrafting method to modify and adopt ISO 16120-2.2017 "Non-alloy steel wire rod for wire making Part 2.General purpose wire rod".
Compared with ISO 16120-2.2017, this part has structural adjustments. Appendix A lists this part and ISO 16120-2.2017

Part 2.General purpose wire rod
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 24242 specifies the designation method, dimensions, and external dimensions of general-purpose wire rods in non-alloy steel wire rods for wire making.
Shape, weight and allowable deviation, order content, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marks and quality certificates.
This section applies to high-quality wire rods for drawn or cold-rolled steel wires with general performance requirements (hereinafter referred to as wire rods).

3 Representation of grades
The average element content (in a few ten thousandths) is composed of two parts of Arabic numerals.

4 Technical requirements
4.1 General requirements
Wire rod size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, order content, smelting method, delivery status, surface condition, test method, inspection gauge
The rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate shall meet the requirements of GB/T 24242.1-2020.
4.2 Brand and chemical composition
4.2.1 Wire rod named after its chemical composition, its grade and chemical composition (melting analysis) should meet the requirements of Table 1.
4.7 Iron oxide scale
The requirements for oxide scale shall be determined through negotiation between the supplier and the buyer.
4.8 Surface quality
4.8.1 The head and tail of the wire rod should be removed from the harmful defects, and the section should not have shrinkage, delamination and inclusions.
4.8.2 The surface of the wire rod should be smooth, and there should be no visible defects such as cracks, folds, ears, and scars. Allow indentation and local bumps,

4.8.3 The wire rod should not have mechanical damage that affects subsequent processing and final use, including between coils, between coils and the ground, and between coils.
