Safety specifications for cords and drawstrings on
children's clothing
1 Scope
This standard specifies the safety requirements for the use of cords and
drawstrings on clothing for infants and child at 14 years of age and below.
This standard applies to the cords and drawstrings used on clothing for infants
and child at 14 years of age and below.
This standard does not apply to the following situations:
- Child care products, such as bibs, diapers or nipple tabs;
- Shoes, boots and similar products of shoes;
- Gloves, hats, scarves;
- Under adult guardianship, a tie used to match shirts in formal occasions
such as schools and celebrations;
- Except for belts, suspenders, tied belts;
- Religious clothing;
- Festive costumes worn for a limited time and under guardianship, such as
costumes worn in folk or religious ceremonies, national or regional festivals;
- Professional sportswear and sportswear worn for a limited time and under
supervision, such as rugby shorts, diving suits and dance suits, except for
daily wear, such as sports jerseys and swimsuits, bikinis, swimming trunks,
surf shorts worn on the beach in summer without supervision;
- Costumes worn during the performance;
- During the day, within a limited time and under supervision, the apron worn
during painting, cooking or dining to prevent clothing from soiling;
- Bag products.
Note 1: Belts and suspenders are used to support clothing and fit the human body
when worn.
Cords, chains, laces, straps or lines which are made from a variety of textile
or non-textile materials, including elastic materials, which are used to adjust
clothing openings or partial sizes of clothing, or to fasten clothing.
3.4
Decorative cord
The non-functional cords, chains, laces, straps or lines with free ends which
are made from various textile or non-woven materials including elastic
materials, with or without embellishments (such as loops, pompoms,
feathers or rosary, etc.), which are not used to adjust clothing openings or
partial sizes of clothing or to tighten clothing.
Note: The tassel is a bunch of decorative cord; the free end of the fixed bow is a
decorative cord.
3.5
Elastic cord
A cord made of rubber, elastic fiber or other elastic material yarns with high
elasticity, complete or almost complete recovery.
3.6
Drawstring
Cords, chains, laces, straps or lines which pass through cord paths, cord
loops, eyelets, or similar parts, are made from a variety of textile or non-
textile materials, including elastic materials, are used to adjust clothing
openings or clothing partial sizes, or used to fasten clothing.
Note 1: When the clothing is closed, the extended length of the drawstring may
increase.
Note 2: The drawstring of the clothing may be a loop with a tensioning device,
instead of a free end at both ends, it may be a single cord with or without being tied.

Hood
The loose plastic covering which is connected with the top and wraps the
head, which can be detachable or fixed.

Stirrup
Strips made of textiles or non-textiles, which are attached to the mouth of
the trousers, so that they can pass through the soles of the feet or soles to
make the wearer more fit.

Toggle
Accessories made of wood, plastic, metal or other materials, with or without
functionality, which are used in drawstrings, functional cords or decorative
cords.
3.16
Loop
Cords or narrow fabrics whose length is fixed or adjustable, both ends are
fixed to the clothing.

Adjustable tab
Textile or non-textile materials with a width no narrower than 20 mm, which
are used to adjust the size of clothing openings or for decorative purposes.
Note: Generally located at the trousers or cuffs.
3.18
Open to its largest and laid flat
Under the condition of not exceeding the deformation of the natural state of
the fabric and not destroying the structure of the clothing or the stitching
state, stretch a certain part of the clothing or clothing to its maximum size to
remove the influence of aggregation or elasticity.
3.19
Relaxed natural state
Lay the clothing flat so that the clothing parts (such as the waist) are in their
natural position (neither extension nor contraction).

Below hip area
The area below the horizontal position of the perineum point (see Figure 1).

The back of the human body's torso and legs, excluding the head, neck, and
arms (see Figure 1).

Sleeves with cuffs at or above the elbow.

4 Requirements
4.1 General
4.1.1 The requirements apply to the interior and exterior of clothing. For some
special styles of clothing, the cords and drawstrings that are completely inside
the clothing during normal wear shall be considered as harmless or acceptable
through risk assessment.
4.1.2 The free ends of drawstrings, functional cords and tied belts or sash shall
not be tied or use three-dimensional embellishment. It shall be prevented from
being worn out; it should use the heat sealing and tacking method. If there is
no risk of entanglement, it may use the overlapping or folding methods. Do not
tie knots or use three-dimensional embellishment along the length of the free
end.
4.1.3 The toggle can only be used for drawstrings and decorative cords without
free ends, see Figure 2.

Foreword
This revised standard adopts the European standard EN14682.2007 "children's clothing and pull the rope with safety requirements" (in English).
This standard EN14682.2007 The main differences are as follows.
--- Remove European standard preface, introduction;
--- Revised European standard "range";
--- Remove European standard "children's clothing" provision, and modify the "children", "Older children and adolescents," the provisions of the height of the content; deleted
In addition to "stirrup", "strap" provisions;
--- Remove provisions on the European standard rope and pull with specifications and standard measurement methods, and specified on the "use of children's clothing

1 Scope
This standard specifies the use of ropes and drawstrings on children's clothing under the age of 14 safety requirements. This standard does not include rope and pull tape
specification.

3 Terms and Definitions
GB/T 15557 and established the following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1
From birth to 7 years (height 130cm and under) children.
3.2
