1 Scope
This Standard specifies the performance requirements and test methods for household
electric kettles and others with similar purposes.
This Standard is applicable to electric kettles with a rated voltage not greater than 250
V AC and a rated capacity not greater than 2.5 L.
NOTE 1:
---Similar purposes refer to non-household applications, such as: inns, coffee
shops, tea rooms, hotels and other occasions with equivalent purposes;
---It is inapplicable to the operating environment where flammable, explosive and
corrosive gas, and conductive dust exist in the surrounding air;
---The performance requirements and test methods for electric kettles with a rated
capacity above 2.5 L are still under consideration.
NOTE 2: this Standard only applies to electric kettles used below 800 m above sea level.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this Standard.
3.1 Electric Kettles
Electric kettles refer to portable electric heating appliances used to heat water to the
boiling point and pour water through the water outlet, such as: electric kettles, electric
cups, electric tea kettles and electric water pots.
3.2 Normal Operation
Normal operation means that the electric kettle is operating at the rated power, the
container is filled with a rated capacity of water, and the lid is closed.
3.3 Rated Capacity
Rated capacity refers to the maximum capacity of the electric kettle specified by the
manufacturer.
3.4 Boil Switch Off
Boil switch off refers to the function of electric kettle of automatically powering off after
heating water to boiling.
3.5 Boiling Water
Boiling water refers to water heated to a boiling state.
3.6 Break Time
Break time refers to the time required from reaching the boiling water temperature to
the automatic switch-off of the electric kettle under the specified test conditions.
3.7 Reset Time
Reset time refers to the shortest time required for the temperature control device to
reset and re-energize after water-boiling and switch-off.
3.8 Thermal Efficiency
Thermal efficiency refers to the ratio of the amount of heat (Q) absorbed by
5.3.2 Boiling water break time
The temperature control device of the electric kettle shall switch off the power supply
within the following time:
---25 s, when the rated power of the electric kettle is greater than 1,500 W;
---30 s, when the rated power of the electric kettle is less than, or equal to 1,500
W.
5.3.3 Reset time
The reset time of the temperature control device of the electric kettle shall be less than
60 s.
5.4 Lift-induced Power-off Function
In terms of electric kettles with a lift-induced power-off function, when the kettle body
is lifted off the base and put back again, the heating circuit can still be in a disconnected
condition.
When the kettle body is lifted off the base, it cannot lift the base together with it.
5.5 Water Outlet Performance
When the electric kettle normally pours water, water can only flow out smoothly from
the water outlet.
5.6 Salt Mist Corrosion Resistance
The visible surfaces inside and outside the kettle body must be free of phenomena like
spots, pinholes, bubbles, rust and corrosion marks, etc.
5.7 Thermal Efficiency
The thermal efficiency of the electric kettles shall be not less than 80%.
The grading of thermal efficiency of the electric kettles shall comply with the stipulations
of Appendix A.
5.8 Service Life
The service life shall be not less than 3,000 working cycles.
The grading of service life of the electric kettles shall comply with the stipulations of
Appendix A.
6.5 Water Outlet Performance Test
Fill the electric kettle with the nominal maximum scale of water; close the lid.
Vertically lift the electric kettle, so that the water outlet is 5 cm ± 1 cm above the upper
edge of the water-receiving container. Steadily tilt the kettle body, so that the water is
poured out of the water outlet; tilt it to 90° as quickly as possible.
Observe whether the water can only flow out smoothly from the water outlet, and
whether there is a continuous flow of water along the sidewall of the electric kettle.
The phenomenon of outflow of water droplets and intermittent water flow is allowed.
Fill the electric kettle with half of the rated capacity of water, then, repeat the above-
mentioned test.
6.6 Salt Mist Corrosion Resistance Test
In accordance with the requirements of GB/T 2423.17, conduct 24 h of salt mist test.
The rust on sharp edges or the yellow rust film that can be wiped off may be neglected.
6.7 Thermal Efficiency Test
Through the following method, test the thermal efficiency of the electric kettle.
Place the thermocouple 10 mm above the center of the inner bottom of the electric
kettle (for electric kettles, in which, the electric heating element is immersed in water,
place the thermocouple 10 mm above the highest end of the electric heating element);
measure the water temperature. Weigh-take a rated capacity of water; weigh its mass
(M), then, pour it all into the electric kettle; measure the initial water temperature as T1
(make the initial water temperature as consistent with the ambient temperature as
possible). Supply power at the rated voltage; when the water temperature reaches
80 °C (T2), immediately switch off the power; read the power consumption (E) of this
process.
The calculation formula of thermal efficiency is as follows:
In which, ;
Where,
---thermal efficiency;
C---specific heat of water, 4.187 103 J / (kg K);
