Pressure Piping Code-Industrial Piping
Part 1. General
1 Scope
1.1 GB/T 20801 "Pressure Piping Code-Industrial Piping" specifies basic requirements on
design, fabrication, installation, examinations, tests and safety protection of industrial metallic
pressure piping.
1.2 This part specifies basic requirements on application scope of pressure piping and
classifying of piping.
1.3 The industrial metallic pressure piping (refer to as "pressure piping") mentioned in this
part includes pressure piping for process devices, auxiliary devices and those for utilities
within battery limit.
1.3.1 This part is applicable to design and fabrication of "pressure piping" specified in
Safety Supervision regulations for Special Equipment". The "pressure piping" specified in
that regulation means piping that the maximum operation pressure is larger than or equal to
O.lMPa, with gas, liquefied gas, vapor medium or inflammable, explosive, poisonous, corrosive
and liquid medium that maximum operation temperature is higher than or equal to standard
boiling point, and nominal diameter is larger than 25mm.
1.3.2 This part is also applicable to design and fabrication of "pressure piping" that the
nominal diameter is less or equal to 25mm, maximum operation pressure is lower than O.lMPa,
or with vacuum, non-inflammable, none-poisonous, none-corrosive liquid medium.
1.4 This part is not applicable to the following scopes.
a) Piping that nominal pressure is above PN 420;
b) Piping for military facilities and nuclear facilities;
c) Piping for exploration and excavation devices for petroleum, natural gas and
geothermy etc.;
d) Piping for offshore facilities and coal pits;
e) Piping specially for electrical and telecommunication;
f) Pressure piping on mobilizable equipment such as railway trammers, automobiles,
ships and aerospace vehicles;
g) Piping in utilities for civil facilities;
h) Long-distance (petroleum or gas) delivery piping or gathering/delivery piping in
petroleum/gas field;
i) Internal piping and pipe orifice of equipment external connection for finalized
columns, beams and framing of steel structure or reinforced concrete structure, and can be
divided into single layer and multi layers, traffic-allowable or traffic-unallowable etc
according to its types.
3.10 Toxic medium
A general name of up-most, high or intermediate hazard medium according to definition
in GB 5044.
3.11 Combustible medium and flammable medium
A general name of grade A, grade B and fluid that operating temperature is above flash
point according to definition in GB 50160.
4 Classifying of Pressure Piping
Pressure piping can be divided into three grades, GC 1, GC2 and GC3 according to
hazard degree and safety rating.
4.1 Any pressure piping which meet any of following conditions can be regarded as grade
GCl.
4.1.1 Pressure piping which transmit following toxic medium.
a) Up-most hazard medium;
b) High hazard gas medium;
c) High hazard liquid medium that operating temperature is above standard boiling
point.
4.1.2 Pressure piping which transmit the following combustible medium and flammable
medium, and design pressure is higher than or equal to 4. OMPa.
a) Grade A and grade B flammable gas;
b) Liquefied hydrocarbon;
c) Grade A-B flammable liquid.
4.1.3 Pressure piping that design pressure is higher than or equal to 10.0MPa, or design
pressure is higher than or equal to 4.0MPa while design temperature is higher than or equal to
400°C.
4.2 Any pressure piping which meet any of following conditions can be regarded as grade
GC2.
Pressure piping that toxic degree of medium, fire hazardous (flammability), design
pressure or design temperature is lower than that for grade GCl pressure piping specified in
4.1, and is exclusive in 4.3 for grade GC3 pressure piping.
4.3 Any pressure piping which meet any of following conditions can be regarded as grade
GC3.
