Foreword
GB/T 18488 "Drive Motor System for Electric Vehicles" is divided into two parts.
- Part 1. Specification;
- Part 2. Test Methods.
This Part is Part 2 of GB/T 18488.
This Part is drafted according to the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 18488.2-2006 “The Electrical Machines and Controllers for
Electric Vehicles - Part 2. Test Methods". Compared with GB/T 18488.2-2006, in
addition to editorial changes, the main technical changes of this Part are as follows.
- The normative references were added; and the editions of some standards were
updated;
- The terms and definitions, test environment condition, test power supply voltage
stabilization requirements, and requirements for signal shielding were added;
- The accuracy of instrument was modified; the measuring instrument was added;
the requirements for range ability of measuring instrument were deleted; and the
requirements for measurement accuracy were added;
- The wiring requirements were modified; the specification for wiring during test
shall be consistent with the practical wiring in vehicle;
- The requirements for the mechanical strength of drive motor controller housing
were modified; and the applied mass was determined according to equivalent
pressure;
- The test methods for cooling circuit sealing property of liquid cooling system were
modified; and the accuracy of test medium and testing instrument was specified;
- The test methods for cold state DC resistance of drive motor stator winding were
modified; the bridge method and voltmeter ammeter method were deleted; the
micro-Ohmmeter measuring method was specified; and the distinguishing
method for consistency of environment temperature was added;
- The insulation resistance test methods were modified; and the measurement
methods for drive motor stator winding against insulation resistance of
temperature sensor and against insulation resistance of drive motor controller
were added;
- The withstand voltage test was modified; the short time rise withstand voltage
test; armature winding insulated DC leakage current test and DC withstand
voltage test were deleted; the interturn surge withstand voltages of drive motor
excitation winding and brush DC motor armature winding were added; the power-
frequency withstand voltage test methods for the drive motor winding against
housing, the drive motor winding against temperature sensor, and the drive motor
winding against drive motor controller were specified;
- The temperature rise test methods were modified; the measuring point, recording
time and calculation formula for temperature rise were specified; the
determination of cooling medium temperature and extrapolation calculation
method for winding resistance were added;
- The measurement of efficiency was modified; and the power of auxiliary device
of drive motor system involved in calculation was specified;
- The maximum working speed test methods were modified; the situation of cold
state measurement was deleted; and the data recording time was specified;
- The environmental adaptation test methods were modified; the test methods and
test contents of low temperature test, high temperature test and damp heat test
were changed; and the salt spray test time was modified;
- The electromagnetic compatibility test method was modified; and the test shall
be conducted according to the test method provided by the manufacturer or the
user;
- The correction of test result was modified, and was adjusted to be informative
appendix;
- The speed-torque characteristics and the selection methods for measuring point
and measurement parameter in the process of efficiency test were added; and
the test methods were detailed;
- The new test items such as appearance, overall and installation dimensions,
quality, working voltage range, continuous torque, continuous power, peak
torque, peak power, high-efficient working area, maximum efficiency, control
accuracy, response time, drive motor controller current, discharge time of drive
motor controller support capacitance, vibration resistance, and reliability were
added;
- The test methods for the controller overload capacity, noise, vibration, contact
current testing, voltage fluctuation and peak power determination were deleted.
This Part was proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the
People's Republic of China.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on
Automobiles of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 114).
Drive Motor System for Electric Vehicles -
Part 2. Test Methods
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 18488 specifies the instruments and meters, test preparation and
each test method used for the test of drive motor system for electric vehicles.
This Part is applicable to the drive motor system for electric vehicles, drive motor and
drive motor controller. The vehicle motor only having power generation function and its
controller may implement this Part by reference.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2900.25, GB/T 2900.33, GB/T 19596 and
GB/T 18488.1 are applicable to this document.
4 Test Preparation
4.1 Test environment conditions
Unless otherwise specified, all the tests shall be carried out under the following
conditions.
a) Temperature. 18°C~28°C;
b) Relative humidity. 45%~75%;
c) Atmospheric pressure. 86 kPa~106 kPa;
d) Altitude. not exceeding 1,000 m; if it exceeds 1,000 m, it shall be in accordance
with the relevant requirements of GB 755-2008.
4.2 Selection of test instrument
4.2.1 Accuracy of instrument
The accuracy or error of instrument shall not be inferior to the requirements specified
in Table 1, and shall meet the accuracy requirement of actually measured parameter;
especially, the instrument and meter for measurement of electrical parameter shall be
able to meet the accuracy and waveform requirements for the measurement of

Under the general title "The Electrical Machines and Controllers for Electric Vehicles", GB/T
18488 includes two parts.
- Part 1. General Specification;
- Part 2. Test Methods.
This part is Part 2 of GB/T 18488.
This Part is the revision of GB/T 18488.2-2001. From the implementation date, this Part replaces
GB/T 18488.2-2001 "Test Procedures of the Electrical Machines and Controllers for Electric
Vehicles".
The main changes in this revision include.
1) The relevant normative references are added. It mainly includes GB/T 1032-2005, JB/T
9615.1-2000 and GB/T 13422-1992.
2) In Chapter 4 ~ Chapter 9, detailed description is supplemented to the methods required
by test items. The common test items in Chapter 4 ~ Chapter 7 of the previous standard
are adjusted and supplemented.
This Part was proposed by the National Technical Committee on Automobiles of Standardization
Administration of China.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Automobiles of
Standardization Administration of China.

1 Scope
This Part specifies the apparatus, instruments, test preparation and each-item test methods used
for testing the electrical machines and controllers for electric vehicles.
This Part applies to the electrical machines and controllers for electric vehicles.

3 Test Preparation
3.1 Selection of measuring apparatus
3.1.1 Accuracy of apparatus
Magnetic electric instrument or other instruments, including digital instruments, which are able to
read the effective values, may be adopted for measuring the effective values of voltage and
current. During the test, the accuracy of adopted electric measuring apparatus and instruments
shall not be less than Grade 0.5 (except for the tramegger). And the accuracy of DC shunt shall
not be less than Grade 0.2. The accuracy of digital rotating speed gauge shall not be less than
0.1% ± 1 digits. The accuracy of torque measuring instrument and dynamometer shall not be less
than 1% (when directly measuring the efficiency, it shall not be less than 0.5%). And the error of
thermometer shall be within ± 1°C.
When selecting the instrument, the measured value shall be within the range of 20%~95% of the
instrument range.
3.1.2 Measuring requirements
a) Within the permissible measurement range of the amperemeter, a shunt shall not be
adopted as much as possible. When measuring current with a shunt, the resistance of
measuring wire shall be selected according to the selecte voltmeter.
b) During the test, each instrument shall be read simultaneously.
3.1.3 Measurement of input power of the controller
The measured value of input power of electrical machine controller is the PRODUCT of the
measured values of input voltage AND the current of the electrical machine controller. The input
voltage shall be measured at the input terminal of the controller, and the input current shall be
measured at the input connection of the controller.
3.2 Test power supply
The DC power supply served shall meet the characteristics of voltage and current that of the
vehicle battery. And the supply output impedance shall be equal to the specified battery
impedance as much as possible.
3.3 Wiring
The wiring during the test shall be similar to the wiring in vehicles. Attention shall be paid to that
the impedance of the external circuit of supply controller shall be equal to the impedance of
wiring in vehicles as much as possible, supposing that the wiring inevitably differs from the one
in vehicles.
3.4 Cooling device
For cooling conditions of electrical machines and controllers, specific application conditions in
vehicles shall be simulated. And the type of cooling device for electrical machines and controllers
shall be recorded into the parameter testing reports of the electrical machine power of electric
vehicles.
Feeding efficiency shall be calculated according to Formula (12).

b) Test by using an inertia wheel device
Measure the angular speed ω1 of inertia wheel before the feeding test, and the angular
speed ω2 after the feeding test. Meanwhile measure the voltage at both ends of the power
supply, and the current and duration of input power supply during feeding.

c) Test by using electrical generation
Electrical machine is dragged by prime motor. Controller is connected to power supply
with 125% rated voltage value. And the electric generation test shall be conducted under
different rotating speed.
9 Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing
9.1 Radiated interference test
Measurement shall be carried out according to the measurement method of radiated interference
specified in Chapter 5 of GB 14023-2006.
9.2 Electromagnetic immunity test
According to of GB/T 17619-1998, testing shall be conducted according to the measurement
method specified in Chapter 4 and the immunity level requirements specified in Table 1.
