Safety of Machinery – Permanent
Means of Access to Machinery – Part 1: Choice
of Fixed Means and General Requirements of Access
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 17888 gives general requirements for access to stationary machines and
guidance about the correct choice of means of access, when necessary, access to the stationary
machine is not possible directly from the ground level or from a floor.
This Part is applicable to permanent means of access which are a part of a stationary machine,
and also to non-powered adjustable parts (e.g., foldable, slidable) and movable parts of fixed
means of access.
NOTE 1: “Fixed” means of access are those mounted in such a manner (for example, by screws, nuts,
welding) that they can only be removed by the use of tools.
This Part specifies minimum requirements that also apply when the same means of access is
required as the part of the building or civil construction (e.g., working platforms, walkways,
ladders) where the machine is installed, on condition that the main function of that part of the
construction is to provide a means of access to the machine.
NOTE 2: Where no local regulation or standards exist, this part of ISO 14122 can be used for means of
access which are outside the scope of the standard.
It is intended that this Part of GB/T 17888 be used with a relevant access-specific part of GB/T
17888.
The GB/T 17888 series as a whole is applicable to both stationary and mobile machinery where
fixed means of access are necessary. It is not applicable to powered means of access such as
lifts, escalators, or other devices specially designed to lift persons between two levels.
For the significant hazards covered by this Part, see Clause 4.

4 major hazards
Consider the following significant risk to determine the form and enter the location of the facility should be in.
GB 17888.1-2008/ISO 14122-1.2001
a) Fall Hazard;
b) slip hazard;
c) a tripping hazard;
d) over-taxing, such as the danger caused by the continuous climb a ladder;
e) the risk of falling objects or material to personnel may result.
It should also be considered in this section do not include dangerous machinery produced by other, such as by a mechanical function caused (the moving parts of the machine, mobile
Movement of the machine itself, radiant, hot surfaces, noise, steam, hot fluid) or the risk of mechanical ambient (air of harmful substances) caused
Insurance, but designers should consider these dangerous machines, for example, to prevent access by reducing the risks.
Note. GB/T 16856 gives principles of risk assessment.
GB 17888 for this part is to prevent people falling and excessive taxing.
5 Select the entry requirements fixed facilities
5.1 General Requirements
All zones in various stages of mechanical "life" period (see GB/T 15706.1-2007 5.3), in the foreseeable need to enter the machine
Domains and sites should be safe and convenient access to a facility.
Preferably 5.2 to enter the facility
Preferred machinery to enter the facility according to the following order of selection.
a) directly into the ground or floor (see 5.3.1.1 and GB/T 15706.2);
b) lifting devices, ramps or stairs (see 5.4);
c) the ladder or ladders (see 5.5).
5.3 entering the facility of choice
5.3.1 Basic Plan
The control device 5.3.1.1 way into the machine or other parts of the preference should as far as possible to enter the ground or floor. This requires
Frequent into the situation especially important.
5.3.1.2 5.3.1.1 If the mode of entry is not possible, you should normally select the following program as a safe and suitable basic scenarios.
--- Lifting device;
--- Appropriate ramp angle of less than 10 ° (see 5.4.b);
--- Stairs inclination 30 ° ~ 38 ° between (see 5.4.c).
5.3.2 Select ladder or ladders conditions
5.3.2.1 In mechanical design should try to avoid using the ladder and straight ladder as entering the facility, using these methods due to excessive physical elimination
Falling consumption caused by higher risk.
5.3.2.2 5.3.1 If the mode of entry is not possible, you can consider using a straight ladder or ladder. It should be based on risk assessment, taking into account
Features Ergonomics to make the final choice.
If the evaluation showed that the level of risk (see GB/T 16856) is too high, it should change the basic structure of the machine to enter the facility, the use of risk
Into the lower channel.
Applications with less risk into the channel (see 5.3.1 and Appendix A).
5.3.2.3 The following are some you can use straight ladder or ladder typical example. However, these are merely examples, the final selection should normally be the root
According to the risk assessment to be made. In most cases, the choice of a straight ladder or ladder should meet one or more of the following conditions.
a) The vertical distance is short;
b) entering the facility is expected to rarely used;
Note. When using the estimated frequency, should consider the entire life of the machine. If you frequently use to enter the facility, such as a machine assembly or during installation, or weeks
During the period of the overhaul, the use of ladders or ladder is not a proper solution.
GB 17888.1-2008/ISO 14122-1.2001
C) When using entering the facility, users do not need to carry large tools or other equipment;
d) expected to use only one person entering the facility;
e) is not expected to be used to evacuate injured personnel;
Structure f) the machine can not use stairs or other basic facilities (see 5.3.1).
Note. for example, tower cranes and mobile machines.
Select 5.3.2.4 Steps and ladders, see section 5.5.
5.4 lifting devices, ramps or stairs choice
Between the two levels should give priority to setting as stairs or ramps to enter the facility, rather than a straight ladder or ladder.
Between the lifting device, select the ramp or stairs, you should consider the following.
a) For the following cases, the lifting device may be the best solution.
--- Often need to enter a few people;
--- Vertical long distance;
--- Transport heavy loads;
When using a lifting device usually requires another one alternative evacuation routes.
b) the following situations, the ramp may be the best solution.
--- Vertical distance is short;
--- Need wheeled vehicles (forklifts, carts, etc.) through.
Ramp slope depends on its usage.
--- For manual trolleys or other wheeled vehicles, the maximum inclination of 3 ° (especially when there may be people with disabilities);
--- For motor vehicles (such as forklifts), the maximum inclination of 7 °;
--- For the walk, maximum inclination may be to 20 ° (recommended no more than 10 °).
Note 1. The stairs only when one or two steps, give priority to the ramp.
Note 2. The nature of the ramp surface has a great impact on its security, which should have a very good non-slip surface, especially for angle between 10 ° ~ 20 ° of
Ramp.
c) the stairs (see GB 17888.3).
Preferably inclination between 30 ° ~ 38 °.
5.5 Selection between steps and ladders
Between the ladder and straight ladder when to make a choice, at least should consider a) and b) content. For detailed requirements to enter these facilities, see
GB 17888.3 and GB 17888.4.
a) Choice of ladder safety levels.
--- If a person does not face the ladder down the stairs, it may increase the risk of falling;
--- If the person using the ladder while carrying small objects, may increase the risk of falling;
--- According to GB 17888.3, no rest platform ladder to limit the maximum length of the ladder;
--- In the space constraints or process necessary, should only use angle between 60 ° ~ 75 ° ladder.
b) ladders choice on safety levels.
1) The need for ladders and hand on ladders. Therefore, the choice is very unreasonable straight ladder back down when a user;
2) the use of ladders and more taxing;
3) there is no rest platform ladders should be limited to a maximum bench according to GB 17888.4;
4) Fixed ladders prevent users falling from a height of two main protective equipment is safety cages and anti-dropping device.
--- Cage should be preferred, because such facilities have been able to play a protective role and its actual level of safety with the operator's live
Move has nothing to do;
--- For the case not possible to use cage should provide personal protective equipment. Parachute effective only when the user selection.
GB 17888.1-2008/ISO 14122-1.2001
If the seat belt and the sliding rail system with anti-dropping device used together is not complete, there is risk.
Anti-dropping device should only be used rarely enter or specially designed accessible place (for example, for maintenance).
Note. Suitable Parachute better than the cage to prevent falling effect.
6 assembly instructions
Assembly instructions shall contain all the information about the correct assembly. In particular, it should include the following information.
--- Method of fixing;
--- When rail anti-dropping device, shall be given in the anchor installation method.
