Public information guidance system - Setting
principles and requirements - Part 1: General
principles
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 15566 stipulates the composition of the public information
guidance system, the general setting principles and requirements, the specific
setting requirements of each guidance element.
This part applies to the setting of public information guidance systems in public
places such as civil airports, railway passenger stations, public transport
stations, shopping market places, medical sites, sport places, hotels, parks,
tourist attractions, parking lots, street blocks, etc.
This part does not apply to the setting of emergency guidance systems and
road traffic guidance systems, nor does it apply to the setting of dynamic
information systems mainly composed of electronic display screens.

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 15565 apply to this document.
4 Composition of public information guidance system
4.1 Overview
The public information guidance system can usually be divided into several sub-
guidance systems; each sub-guidance system can be further divided into
several different types of guidance elements.
4.2 Sub-guidance system
Dividing the sub-guidance system helps to refine the setting of the public
information guidance system. The following aspects should be considered
when dividing the sub-guidance system:
a) Personnel flow direction: The sub-guidance system can be divided
according to different person flow directions;
b) Activity area: The sub-guidance system can be divided according to the
different activity areas of the personnel;
Note 1: It is suitable for public facilities with clear and specific spatial divisions.
For example, the station plaza, station building and platform of a railway
passenger station can be divided into different sub-guidance systems.
c) Guidance object: The sub-guidance system can be divided according to
the corresponding guidance elements which are used by the different
guidance objects.
Note 2: Applicable to the situation where different guidance objects share the
same space area, for example, in a motor vehicle parking lot, the sub-guidance
system can be divided according to the different needs of walking observers and
driving observers.
4.3 Guidance elements
4.3.1 According to the complexity and scale of the public information guidance
system, the public information guidance system can be composed of one or
more of the following guidance elements:
consider relevant human body size data.
Note: GB/T 10000 stipulates the body size data of Chinese adults.
5.2 Visibility
5.2.1 Guidance elements shall be eye-catching in the setting environment.
5.2.2 The guidance element shall be set in a position that is easy to find and
avoid being blocked by other fixed objects.
5.2.3 If the guidance elements need to be used at night, it should be ensured
that there is sufficient external lighting or the use of built-in light sources.
5.2.4 Guidance elements and advertisements should be visually separated.
When guidance elements and advertisements are set together, it should be
ensured that the advertisements will not affect the visual priority of the guidance
elements and will not interfere with the reading of guidance information.
5.3 Consistency
5.3.1 Consistency rules shall be adopted for the guidance setting of connection
and conversion between public information guidance systems, to facilitate the
smooth connection and transition of guidance information.
5.3.2 In the same guidance area, the same type of guidance elements should
be consistent in size, setting position, setting method or setting height.
5.4 Coordination
5.4.1 In the same public information guidance system, the use of information
elements such as graphic symbols and texts that represent the same meaning
shall be the same.
5.4.2 The use of graphical symbols, text and other information elements should
be coordinated between different public information guidance systems that are
connected to each other.
5.4.3 The setting of guidance elements shall be coordinated with environmental
characteristics.
5.4.4 The public information guidance system should be set up to avoid
interference to the emergency guidance system in the same place.
5.5 Systematicness
5.5.1 It shall guarantee the continuity of the guidance information in the public
information guidance system and the cooperation between the guidance
contents. Corresponding guidance elements shall be set at all intersections in
the public information guidance system (such as entrances and exits, divisions
or junctions on the route, etc.); the setting of guidance elements shall be used
to guide all possible destinations as well as the shortest or most suitable route
to each destination.
5.5.2 It shall guarantee the continuity of guidance information between systems.
While considering the guidance within the system, it shall also provide the
information to reach the system and surrounding systems.
5.5.3 When setting up a specific public information guidance system, it shall
consider the role and contribution of its guidance elements to the entire city's
public information guidance system. For example, it provides printed materials
that reflect the overall environment with guidance functions, such as urban
maps, etc.; another example is the positioning of the surrounding area through
the design of bus stop signs and subway station names.
5.5.4 In the public information guidance system, various guidance elements
shall be used in conjunction and set appropriately.
5.6 Safety
After the elements of the public information guidance system are set, the
location, height and components of the guidance elements shall not cause
physical danger to pedestrians or observers.
6 Location signs and guidance signs
6.1 Setting location
6.1.1 The location sign shall be set above or close to the target. If the target
features prominent and easily identifiable within the line of sight, the setting of
the location sign shall play a guidance role to make it easy for observers at a
distance to find it. At this time, the location sign should be hung or set
perpendicular to the wall.
6.1.2 Only when the location sign is out of sight, it is necessary to set the
guidance sign. The continuity of information shall be maintained between the
