Foreword
This Standard was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaced GB/T 1431-2009 Carbon Materials - Determination of the
Compressive Strength. Compared with GB/T 1431-2009, this Standard has the major
technical changes as follows:
--- Modify the principle description (see Clause 3 of this Edition; Clause 3 of 2009
Edition);
--- Add the technical requirements of micrometer (see 4.2 of this Edition);
--- Modify the technical requirements of material tester (see 4.4 of this Edition; 4.2
of 2009 Edition);
--- Add the technical requirements for isostatic graphite specimen size and
roughness (see 5.2.4, 5.3 of this Edition);
--- Improve the requirements of diameter test (see 6.2, 6.4 of this Edition; 6.2.1,
6.2.3 of 2009 Edition);
--- Add the loading requirements of isostatic graphite sample (see 6.6 of this Edition).
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Industry Association.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the principle, apparatus, specimen, test procedures, test
results and test report for compressive strength of carbon materials.
This Standard is applicable to the determination of the compressive strength of carbon
materials under room temperature.
2 Normative Reference
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the
dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this
document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the
amendments) are applicable to this document.

3 Principle
The compressive strength indicates the pressure limit load that can be withstood by
the material per unit area.
4 Apparatus
4.1 Vernier caliper: measuring range of 0mm~200mm; accuracy of 0.02mm.
4.2 Micrometer: measuring range of 0mm~50mm; accuracy of 0.01mm.
4.3 Blast drying oven: equipped with automatic temperature regulating device; the
temperature can be maintained at 105°C~110°C.

This standard replaces GB/T 1431-1985 "Determination of compressive strength carbon material."
The standard of the original standard GB/T 1431-1985 "Determination of compressive strength carbon material" made the following changes.
--- Modification of the original standard format;
--- Increasing the element "foreword", "range", "normative references", "principle" and "the results of the calculation."
The standard proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the principles, instruments, samples, test procedures, test results of compressive strength of carbon materials.
This standard applies to the determination of carbon at room temperature compressive strength of the material.

Principle 3
Compressive strength is the material per unit area can withstand extreme loads.
4 instruments and equipment
4.1 vernier caliper. Measuring range (0 ~ 200) mm, the accuracy of 0.02mm.
4.2 universal testing machine. Range (0 ~ 300) kN.
4.3 Blast Oven. with automatic thermostat can be maintained at a temperature (105 ~ 110) ℃.
5 Sample
5.1 according to GB/T 1427 provisions for sampling and processing.
5.2 Sample Size
5.2.1 Cylindrical. Sample diameter 45mm ± 0.1mm; height 40mm ± 0.1mm.
5.2.2 Chemical anode plate. Sample diameter 35mm ± 0.1mm; height 30mm ± 0.1mm.
5.2.3 Square. Sample (length) 40mm ± 0.1mm × (width) 40mm ± 0.1mm × (height) 40mm ± 0.1mm and marked Minga
Pressure surface.
5.3 parallelism deviation post-processing of the sample is not greater than 0.1mm/100mm, R Rao roughness of 3.2μm.
Appearance 5.4 sample after processing, it should be no visible cracks or defects.
6 Test procedure
6.1 Sample shall, within (105 ~ 110) ℃ drying oven drying 2h, and then stored in a desiccator, cool to room temperature before use.
6.2 sample testing and calculations.
6.2.1 Detection diameter. 6 measured along the axial direction of the sample, the mean value.
6.2.2 height detection. Press the ends of the specimen circumference measured three times and averaged.
6.2.3 diameter measured values, calculated pressure area.
6.3 sample surface at a specified pressure, placed at the center of the test machine working face.
6.4 tester speed 3kN/cm2 per minute, continuous, no impact to the load is applied until the destruction of the sample date, sample record broken
