Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB/T 1171-2006 “Classical V-belt for general drive”.
Compared with GB/T 1171-2006, the main technical changes except editorial
modification are as follows.
- DELETE the requirements for adapting the rope structure in the scope (see
Clause 1 of this Standard, Clause 1 of 2006 edition);
- MODIFY the representation method for the mark (see 4.2 of this Standard,
3.3 of the 2006 version);
- DELETE the requirements for the adhesion strength of ropes in physical
properties and its test methods (see 5.3 of this Standard, 5.3 and 7.3 of
2006 edition);
- MODIFY the inspection of the dimensions in the sampling (see 6.1 of this
Standard, 6.1 of 2006 edition);
- ADD the tables of reference rated power P1 and power increment ΔP1 of a
single piece of V-belt (see Annex A).
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee on Friction-type
Belt Drive of National Technical Committee on Pulleys and Belts of
Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 428/SC 3).

Classical V-belt for general drive
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the structure, types and marks, requirements, sampling,
test methods and marking, labeling, packaging, transportation and storage of
classical V-belts (hereinafter referred to as V-belts) for general drive.
This Standard applies to classical V-belts used for general mechanical drive
devices.
This Standard does not apply to mechanical drive devices such as automobiles
and motorcycles.

3 Structures
3.1 V-belts are divided into two types according to the structure. wrap-edge V-
belt, cut-edge V-belts (classical cut-edge V-belts, grooved cut-edge V-belts and
bottom-rubber-embedded-cloth cut-edge V-belts).
3.2 The V-belt consists of rubber canvas (top cloth), top rubber, cushion rubber,
tensile member, bottom rubber, bottom cloth (bottom rubber-embedded cloth),
etc. (see Figure 1).

unqualified, this batch of products are determined as unqualified products. The
V-belt fatigue test shall not be less than once per season.
6.5 In the event of changing the line of production, transferring the factory,
resumption of production after production stoppage, or a major change in
structure, material or process, the V-belts shall be subjected to the type
inspection. For the type inspection of V-belts, the entire contents of Clause 5
shall be inspected.
7 Test methods
7.1 For the appearance quality of V belts, the damage of the angled canvas
and the length of the flash are measured with a tape or a caliper, and the rest
are checked by visual inspection.
7.2 The dimensions of V-belts are measured in accordance with the
specifications GB/T 11544.
7.3 The tensile strength and elongation at reference load of V-belts are tested
in accordance with the specifications of GB/T 3686. The reference load is as
specified in Table 3.

7.4 For the adhesion strength test between cloth and top rubber, first cut two
samples on the top of the V-belt. The samples are rectangular with a width of
10.0 mm ± 0.2 mm. If necessary, the thickness shall be appropriately thinned.
They are of sufficient length to allow the separation length during the
measurement to be no less than 100 mm. The holder moves at a speed of 100
mm/min ± 10 mm/min. The value is calculated according to GB/T12833, and
the arithmetic mean of the two samples is calculated.
7.5 The no-torque fatigue life and pulley center-to-center distance change rate
of V-belts is tested in accordance with the specifications of GB/T 15328.

Foreword
This Standard replaces GB/T 1171-1996 "Classical V-belts for general use".
Compared with GB/T 1171-1996, the main changes in this Standard are as follows.
— DELETE the classical V-belts with ply structure;
— DELETE the requirements for adhesion strength between cord plies of V-belts
and the structure diagram (4.2 and Figure 1b of 1996 version);
— DELETE the requirements for first-class products of V-belts. IMPROVE the
requirements for tensile strength, reference force elongation, cord adhesion
strength, and fatigue life of qualified products of V-belts (4.2 of 1996 version; 5.3
of this version);
— ADD the structure diagram of cutting-side V-belts (see Figure 1);
— ADD the requirements for adhesion strength between wrapped V-belts and
rubber bushing, and between cutting-side V-belts and rubber bushing (see 5.3);

Classical V-belt for general drive
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the classification, structure, requirements, test methods and
sings, labels, packaging, storage, and transportation of classical V-belts for general
drive (hereinafter referred to as V-belts).
This Standard applies to classical V-belts with cord structure for general mechanical
transmission devices.
This Standard does not apply to the classical V-belts with ply structure, and the
mechanical transmission devices such as vehicles, agricultural machinery, and
motorcycles.

reference in this Standard. For dated references, the subsequent amendments
(excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard, however, parties
who reach an agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to study if the latest

3 Classification
3.1 Type
The type of V-belts is divided into wrapped V-belts and cutting-side V-belts (classical
cutting-side V-belts, toothed cutting-side V-belts, and rubber-lined-with-cloth
production is resumed after shutdown, or there are significant changes in structure,
material or process, then the V-belts need to be conducted for type inspection. When
conducting type inspection for V-belts, it shall inspect the entire contents in Chapter 5
"Requirements" of this Standard.
7 Test methods
7.1 The dimension of V-belts shall be measured according to the provisions of GB/T
11544.
7.2 The tensile strength and reference force elongation of V-belts shall be tested
according to the provisions of GB/T 3686. The reference force shall in accordance
with the provisions in Table 3.

7.3 The cord adhesion strength of V-belts shall be tested according to the provisions
of GB/T 3688.
7.4 For the test of adhesion strength between the cloth and rubber bushing, firstly
CUT two pieces of samples on the top of V-belts. The sample is rectangular, with a
width of 10.0mm±0.2mm, if necessary, the thickness shall be appropriately thinned.
And the sample shall have sufficient length to make the separating length during
measurement process not less than 100mm. The moving speed of gripper is
100mm/min±10mm/min. OBTAIN the values according to GB/T 12833, and then
calculate the arithmetic average of the two samples.
7.5 The non-loading fatigue life of V-belts and variation rate of center distance of belt
pulley shall be tested according to the provisions of GB/T 15328.
8 Signs, labels, packaging, storage, and transportation
8.1 Signs
Each piece of V-belt shall have obvious signs that can not be washed off by water. It
shall include the following contents.
a) Manufacturer's name and trademarks;
b) Marks;
c) Group-matching codes;
d) Manufacturing year and month.
8.2 Labeling and packaging
V-belts are tied by model and reference length. Each bundle of V-belts shall have
same-marks and same-group-matching codes. And it shall use appropriate methods
to package the products. It shall enclose labels in the package, on which it shall
include the following contents.
a) Manufacturer's name and trademarks;
b) Marks and the materials of belt core;
c) The number of V-belts in the packaging;
d) Qualified seal of quality inspection department;
e) Use and maintenance conditions of V-belts.
8.3 Storage and transportation
8.3.1 During the storage and transportation of V-belts, it shall avoid direct sunlight or
being drenched by rain and snow, and keep clean; PREVENT the contact with acids,
alkalis, oils, and organic solvents that may affect the quality of V-belts; PREVENT
mechanical damages, and keep 1m away from heating devices.
8.3.2 When storing, the temperature in warehouse shall be kept between -18°C~ +
40°C.
8.3.3 During the storage period, it shall avoid deformation of V-belts from withstanding
too much weight. It is the best to hang the V-belts on the crescent-shaped shelves or
place flatly on the shelves.
8.3.4 When having been stored for no more than 1 year under the above conditions,
the properties of V-belts shall still comply with the provisions of this Standard.
