Photometric Characteristics of Daytime Running
Lamps for Power Driven Vehicles
1 Scope
This Standard stipulates the photometric characteristics, test methods and inspection
rules of daytime running lamps for power driven vehicles.
This Standard is applicable to various types of daytime running lamps used by
Category-L, Category-M and Category-N power driven vehicles.
2 Normative References

3 Terms and Definitions
Terms and definitions defined in GB 4599, GB 4785 and GB/T 15766.1 are applicable
to this document.
4 Different Types of Daytime Running Lamps
Daytime running lamps including interlocking lamp system, have differences in the
following main aspects:
6 Test Methods
6.1 Requirements of Darkroom, Device and Equipment
Test darkroom, device and equipment shall comply with the stipulations in GB 4599.
6.2 Requirements of Visual Surface
Visual surface boundary in the reference axis direction of daytime running lamps shall
be determined.
6.3 Voltage Requirements in Photometric Test and Chromaticity Test
6.3.1 If electric light source controller is not used, colorless or colored standard light
sources of categories stipulated by daytime running lamps shall be adopted. In addition,
the following voltages shall be provided:
a) In terms of filament light bulbs, they shall be measured under the stipulated
reference luminous flux;
b) In terms of 6.75 V, 13.5 V or 28.0 V LED light sources, luminous flux shall be
calibrated. Calibration coefficient shall be the ratio of the target luminous flux
and the average luminous flux of input voltage.
6.3.2 In terms of systems which use electric light source controller, and act as a part
of daytime running lamps, the voltage of the supply lamp input terminal shall
respectively be 6.75 V, 13.5 V or 28.0 V.
6.3.3 In terms of systems which use electric light source controller, but do not belong
to a constituent component of daytime running lamps, the voltage released by the
manufacturer shall be input to the input terminal. Laboratories may demand electric
light source controller, which provides voltage to light sources, from the manufacturer.
The voltage input to daytime running lamps shall be indicated in the technical
instruction in 7.1.1 b).
6.3.4 In terms of daytime running lamps with irreplaceable light sources (filament light
bulbs and others), the test voltage shall comply with the requirements in 6.3.2.
6.4 Requirements of Preparation before Photometric Test
Before photometric test, light sources shall be lightened up in accordance with the
voltage during the test, so that the optical performance could approach stability.
6.5 Requirements of Photometric Measurement of Daytime Running
Lamps with Different Light Sources
6.5.1 In terms of daytime running lamps with irreplaceable light sources (filament light
6.8.2.1 In terms of daytime running lamps with replaceable light sources, they shall
comply with the following requirements:
a) If the light sources have stipulated maximum and minimum power, comply with
the voltage that reaches the maximum and the minimum median power in the
test. If they are applicable to multiple nominal voltages, choose the voltage
which has the maximum power for the test;
b) If light source’s maximum power is merely stipulated, voltage shall be adjusted
to 90% of the maximum power. If they are applicable to multiple nominal
voltages, choose the voltage which has the maximum power for the test.
6.8.2.2 In terms of daytime running lamps with irreplaceable light sources (filament
light bulbs and others), the test voltage shall comply with the requirements in 6.3.2.
7 Inspection Rules
7.1 Requirements of Type Inspection
7.1.1 The manufacturer shall provide the following documents:
a) A detailed description of device, vehicle and reference axis on the reference
plane of the ground, which is installed through the method of different
inclinations on the vehicle, or the installation on vehicle through the method of
rotation around the reference axis. All the interlocking lamps in the interlocking
lamp system shall also be submitted.
b) Display sufficient details, so as to identify the drawings of this type of daytime
running lamps. The drawings shall indicate the geometric position of the
installation of daytime running lamps on vehicle, and the observation axis
(horizontal angle H = 0; vertical angle V = 0), which works as reference axis
in the test, and the visual surface, which works as reference center in the
above-mentioned test.
c) A concise technical instruction. Other than daytime running lamps with
irreplaceable light sources, it shall also indicate:
1) Use the stipulated types of filament light bulbs;
2) Use the stipulated types of LED light sources;
3) In the usage of light source module, its type and parameters shall be
provided, which may include the specifications, dimensions, optical
parameters and target luminous flux of LED module;
4) Use the installation indication signals.
