SN/T 1599-2005 SN ENTRY AND EXIT INSPECTION AND QUARANTINE INDUSTRY STANDARD OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA Determination for major elements in coal ash by ICP- AES ISSUED ON: MAY 20, 2005 IMPLEMENTED ON: DECEMBER 01, 2005 Issued by: General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of PRC Table of Contents Foreword ... 3  1 Scope ... 4  2 Normative references ... 4  3 Principles ... 4  4 Reagents and materials ... 4  5 Instruments and equipment... 5  6 Preparation of coal ash samples ... 5  7 Analytical procedures ... 5  8 Result calculation ... 7  9 Precision ... 7  Appendix A (Informative) Working conditions of instruments and analysis wavelengths of elements ... 9  Determination for major elements in coal ash by ICP- AES 1 Scope This standard specifies the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (referred to as ICP-AES) method, for the determination of the content of SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, TiO2, P2O5 K2O, Na2O, SO3 in coal ash. This standard applies to the determination of SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, TiO2, P2O5, K2O, Na2O, SO3 content in coal ash. Coke ash and coal gangue lime can also make reference to this standard. 2 Normative references The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard; however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies. GB/T 212 Proximate analysis of coal (eqv ISO 11722) GB 474 Preparation of coal sample (eqv ISO 1988) GB/T 602 Chemical reagent - Preparations of standard solutions for impurity (ISO 6353-1, NEQ) 3 Principles The specimens are melted by lithium tetraborate, extracted by nitric acid, then measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer. 4 Reagents and materials Unless otherwise stated, only reagents confirmed to be of analytically pure and deionized water or water of equivalent purity are used in the analysis. 4.1 Anhydrous lithium tetraborate: Excellent grade pure. 4.2 Nitric acid (ρ = 1.42 g/mL). 4.3 Nitric acid solution (1 + 9): Mix 1 volume of nitric acid (4.2) with 9 volumes of water. 4.4 Standard solution: The standard solution of each element can be prepared according to GB/T 602 method, OR it may directly use certified standard solution. The mass concentration is 1000 mg/L (or 500 mg/L). 5 Instruments and equipment 5.1 ICP-AES: It is equipped with computer control and data processing system. 5.2 Analytical balance: Sensitivity is 0.0001 g. 5.3 Muffle furnace: It is equipped with temperature control device, which can control the temperature at (1000 ± 10) °C. 5.4 Electric heating plate: The temperature is adjustable. 5.5 Platinum crucible: 30 mL. 5.6 Volumetric flask: 200 mL. 6 Preparation of coal ash samples Take an appropriate amount of coal samples, which are prepared by the method of GB 474 for air-drying analysis. Perform ashing, according to the ashing steps of the slow ashing method in GB/T 212. The obtained ash is ground in an agate mortar AND all passed through a 160-mesh sieve. Then it is placed in an ash dish; burned at (815 ± 10) °C for 30 min, until reaching the constant weight. 7 Analytical procedures 7.1 Preparation of specimen solution Weigh 0.1 g of ash sample (accurate to 0.1 mg), in a platinum crucible, which was pre-loaded with 0.5 g of lithium tetraborate (4.1). Stir it evenly. Melt it in a muffle furnace, which was pre-heated to (1000 ± 10) °C, for 10 min. Shake the crucible. Melt it for another 5 min. The whole melting process does not exceed 20 min. Take out the crucible. Cool it slightly. Put the crucible into a 250 mL beaker, which contains 150 mL of nitric acid solution (4.3). Place it on a hot plate to heat it. Stir it constantly. After the frit is completely dissolved, remove ......
