Pressure Vessels
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms, definitions, classification, code, dimensions,
appearance, weight, technical requirements, inspection and tests, packaging, marking
and quality certificate of stainless carbon steel clad plates, which are manufactured
through rolling method for the purposes of pressure vessels.
This Standard is applicable to rolled clad plates for pressure vessels, which are
manufactured by BAOSHAN Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., and take stainless steel as the
cladding metal, and carbon steel or low-alloy steel as the base metal, and with the total
thickness of not less than 8 mm, hereinafter referred to as clad plates. This Standard
shall be applied to stainless-steel cladding metal single-sided and double-sided
symmetrical, and asymmetrical clad thick plates of various types of pressure vessels
and storage tanks in manufacturing oil, chemical industry, light industry, sea water
desalination and nuclear industry.

3 Terms and Definitions
This Standard adopts the following terms and definitions:
3.1 Stainless Steel Rolled Clad Plate
Stainless steel rolled clad plate refers to clad plate, which takes carbon steel or low-
alloy steel as the base metal and adopts the rolling method to integrally and
consecutively clad a certain thickness of stainless steel on its one side, or both sides.
3.2 Base Metal

Grade-1 single-sided rolled clad plate; ordered in accordance with Q/BQB 695-2015;
cladding metal: 3 mm thickness, S30403 (standard No.: GB 24511) stainless steel;

mm; length: 10,000 mm may be designated like this:

Contracts or orders that order products in accordance with this Standard shall include
the following content:
a) Standard No.; standard No. of the cladding metal and the base metal;

6.3 Weight
6.3.1 Clad plate shall be delivered in accordance with theoretical weight. The
theoretical weight of clad plate is the sum of nominal theoretical weight of the cladding
metal and the base metal stipulated in corresponding standards.
6.3.2 Please refer to Appendix A (informative) for the density of various nameplates
(unified digital code) of commonly used stainless steel. Other than stainless steel, the
density of carbon steel and low-alloy steel shall adopt 7.85 g/cm3.
NOTE: the density of S30403 stainless steel shall adopt 7.90 g/cm3.
6.4 Other Dimensions, Appearance, Weight and Allowable Deviation
Other dimensions, appearance, weight and allowable deviation of clad plate shall
comply with the stipulations in GB/T 709.
7 Technical Requirements
7.1 Cladding Metal and Base Metal
7.1.1 The standard and nameplate of cladding metal and base metal shall respectively
comply with Table 4 and Table 5.
7.1.2 Through the agreement between the demand-side and the supply-side, except
from standards listed in Table 4 and Table 5, other standards of cladding metal and
base metal may also be adopted.

7.4 Composition Requirements
Chemical composition of the base metal and the cladding metal shall comply with
corresponding stipulations in standards on base metal and cladding metal.
NOTE 1: No. 1 modification order of GB 150.2-2011 stipulates that C, P, S of GB/SA516
Gr70 and GB/SA537C1 1 shall comply with relevant requirements of Q345R in
GB713.
7.5 Mechanical Properties and Process Performance
7.5.1 Bonding shear strength of the compound contact interface of clad plate shall
comply with the stipulations in Table 7. In terms of double-sided clad plate, respectively
retain different sides of cladding metal for shear test.
7.5.2 Tensile test result of clad plate shall comply with the stipulations in Table 8. In
terms of double-sided clad plate, only one kind of cladding metal is generally retained
for tensile test. The cladding metal that needs to be retained shall be indicated by the
demand-side in the contract. When the thickness of the base metal is more than 40
mm, or is appointed by the demand-side, tensile test of the base metal shall merely be
conducted.
7.5.3 When base metal standard has corresponding requirements of impact test
towards the nameplate of base metal, then, clad plate shall receive impact test of the
base metal. The test temperature and impact absorption energy shall comply with the
stipulations of base metal standard.
NOTE 2: No. 1 modification order of GB 150.2-2011 stipulates that elongation after break
A and impact absorption energy KV2 indicators of GB/SA516 Gr70 and
GB/SA537C1 1 shall comply with relevant requirements of Q345R in GB713.
7.6 Bending Properties
7.7 Intergranular Corrosion Test of Cladding Metal
In accordance with the demand-side’s demands, and indication in the contract,
intergranular corrosion test of cladding metal may be conducted. The test methods and
acceptable quality level shall be negotiated between the demand-side and the supply-
side.
7.8 Ultrasonic Testing
Except from ultrasonic testing of the bonding state, when the thickness of the base
metal or the cladding metal is more than 6 mm, in accordance with the demand-side’s
demands, and indication in the contract, ultrasonic testing may be conducted per PCS
on the base metal or the cladding metal. The method of ultrasonic testing shall comply
with the stipulations in GB/T 2970 or NB/T 47013.3. The standards of the testing and
the acceptable quality level shall be indicated in the contract.
7.9 Surface Quality
The surface of cladding metal of clad plate shall not manifest defects that are
detrimental to the usage, such as: bubbles, scabs, cracks, inclusions and folds. If there
are the above-mentioned defects, they are allowed to be eliminated. However, after
the elimination, the minimum thickness of the cladding metal shall be guaranteed,
otherwise, welding repair shall be conducted. Welding repair shall comply with the
stipulations in 7.3.2. The surface quality of the base metal shall comply with the
stipulations of standards on base metal products.
8 Inspection and Tests
8.1 Inspection Items
Clad plate’s exit-factory inspection items shall be indicated in the contract and comply
with the stipulations in Table 10.

8.4 When one of the items in the test result does not comply with the standard
requirements, re-inspection may be conducted, or, the whole batch may be determined
as disqualified.
8.5 Re-inspection
8.5.1 Re-inspection of impact test shall comply with the stipulations of standards on
base metal products. In the re-inspection of other items, randomly take a doubled size
of samples from the same batch to conduct the re-inspection of the disqualified item.
8.5.2 If the re-inspection result (including all the indicators requested in the test) is
qualified, then, the whole batch shall be deemed as qualified. Even if one of the
indicators in the re-inspection result (including all the indicators requested in the test)
is disqualified, the whole batch shall be deemed as disqualified.
8.5.3 Re-classification and rework
Before or after the re-inspection, disqualified steel plates may receive re-classification
and rework. Please see the specific methods as follows:
a) An individual PCS of steel plate which has already received the tests and the
test results are disqualified cannot be accepted. However, steel plates which
have not received the tests in this batch may be re-submitted per PCS for tests
and acceptance check;
b) Disqualified steel plates may receive re-thermal treatment, then, be re-
constituted into a group batch and submitted for tests and acceptance check.
9 Numerical Rounding-off
Numerical rounding-off rules shall comply with the stipulations in GB/T 8170.
10 Packaging, Marking and Quality Certificate
10.1 In the packaging of clad plates, the cladding metal surface of clad plates shall
receive effective protection, which can prevent the cladding metal surface from being
contaminated or scratched. Through the negotiation between the demand-side and the
supply side, bare clad plates may also be delivered (in other words, clad plates that
are not packaged).
10.2 On the cladding metal surface (when it is doubled-sided cladding metal: on the
surface of cladding metal 1) of each PCS of clad plate, certain marks shall be printed
or sculptured, such as the supply-side’s trademark, standard No., nameplate,
dimensions, steel plate No. and weight.
