Foreword
JB/T 5088 "Internal combustion engines - Spin-on oil filters" is divided into three parts:
- Part 1: Specification;
- Part 2: Test method;
- Part 3: Dimensions.
This Part is Part 3 of JB/T 5088.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces JB/T 5097-1991 "Internal combustion engine spin-on oil filter serial
size". Compared with JB/T 5097-1991, the main technical changes are as follows:
- ADD the dimensional requirements for the sealing surface; MODIFY the
dimensional requirements for the connecting thread (see 3.1);
- DELETE the provisions on filter element size (2.2 of the 1991 edition);
- MODIFY the diameter and length of the filter (see 3.2; 2.4 of the 1991 edition);
- MODIFY the dimensions of the sealing ring (see 3.1, 3.2; 2.5 of the 1991 edition);
- ADD the technical requirements for bypass valve's opening pressure (see 3.3);
- ADD the technical requirements for metal enclosure bottom design (see 3.4).
This Part was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Internal Combustion Engine
Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC l77).

Dimensions
1 Scope
This Part of JB/T 5088 specifies the main characteristic dimensions of spin-on oil filters
for internal combustion engines.
This Part applies to spin-on oil filters (hereinafter referred to as filters), which are used
for small and medium-power internal combustion engines.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated
documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document;
for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is
applicable to this standard.

3 Main dimensions of filters
3.1 Connection thread and sealing surface
The dimensions of the internal and external connection threads and sealing surfaces are
as specified in Figure 1 and Table 1. Threads shall comply with the requirements in
GB/T 192, GB/T 193, GB/T 197, GB/T 2516.
The sealing surface shall be continuous and free from defects, such as looseness and
cracks.
