Foreword
GB/T 6995 " Markings for electric wires and cables" is divided into five parts.
- Part 1. General requirements;
- Part 2. Standard colours;
- Part 3. Identifications of cables and wires;
- Part 4. Identifications of insulated conductors of cables and wires for electrical
appliances and equipments;
- Part 5. Identifications of insulated cores of power cables.
This Part is part 5 of GB/T 6995.
This Part replaces GB 6995.5-1986 “Markings for electric cables and wires - Part 5.
Identifications of insulated cores of power cables”.
Compared with GB 6995.5-1986, the main changes of this Part are as follows.
- Add the chapter "Normative References" (see Chapter 2);
- Adjust the clause number of "Core Identification"; the following contents are
adjusted accordingly (Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of previous edition;
Chapter 3, Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 of this edition);
- Add the numerical identification of 5-cores cable (4.2 of this edition);
- Delete the content "For nominal section of 16 mm2, the neutral core is allowed
without mark, using colour" (3.2 of previous edition);
- Modify "Colourant has no harmful effects on cable’s paper fibre" to be "Colourant
has no harmful effects on the cable insulation" (3.4 of previous edition; 4.4 of this
edition);
- Modify the colour identification from "red, yellow, green" to be "yellow, green, red",
when the cable insulation wire core is 3-cores; modify the colour identification from
"red, yellow, green, light-blue" to be "yellow, green, red, blue", when the cable
insulation wire core is 4-cores (4.1 of previous edition; 5.1 of this edition);
- Add the colour identification when the cable insulation wire core is 5-cores (5.1 of
this edition).
This Part was proposed by China Electrical Equipment Industrial Association.
Markings for electric wires and cables - Part 5.
Identifications of insulated cores of power cables
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 6995 is applicable to identification of insulated cores of power cables,
including the oil-filled cables, oil impregnated paper insulated cables, and extruded
solid insulated cables.
In addition to comply with the provisions of this Part, insulated core’s identification mark
shall also comply with the relevant provisions of GB/T 6995.1-2008 and GB/T 6995.2-
2008 .
2 Normative references
The following documents contain the provisions which, through reference in this Part
of GB/T 6995, become the provisions of this Standard. For dated references, their
subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this
Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are
applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this
Standard.
GB/T 6995.1-2008 Markings for electric wires and cables - Part 1. General
requirements
GB/T 6995.2-2008 Markings for electric wires and cables - Part 2. Standard colours
3 Core identification
3.1 Power cable’s insulated cores adopts 2 methods - numerical identification and
colour identification.
3.2 Oil-filled cables and oil impregnated paper insulated cables shall adopt numerical
identification.
3.3 Extruded solid insulated cables adopt colour identification; under special
circumstances, it allows the use of numerical identification.
- 3-Core cable. yellow, green, red;
- 4-Core cable. yellow, green, red, blue;
- 5-core cable. negotiated and determined by supplier and purchaser.
NOTE. The colours red, yellow, green are used for main cores, blue for neutral core. In order
to avoid confusion with other colours, it is recommended to use light-blue.
5.2 PVC insulated cable’s insulated cores generally adopt the coloured insulation
material.
5.3 For insulated cores that are not easy to be coloured, it allows to adopt marking-
yarn or marking colour-strip.
