Foreword
GB/T 6006 “Test method for glass mats” consists of three parts:
- Part 1: Determination of styrene solubility;
- Part 2: Determination of tensile breaking force;
- Part 3: Determination of thickness.
This Part is Part 2 of GB/T 6006.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 6006.2-2001 “Test method for glass mats - Part 2:
Determination of tensile breaking force”. Compared with GB/T 6006.2-2001, in
addition to editorial modifications, the main technical changes in this Part are
as follows:
- deleted the expression “Other types of felts, such as stitched felts, can refer
to it as a reference” from “Scope” (see Clause 1 of Edition 2001);
- deleted GB/T 18374-2001 from “Normative references”; added ISO 291
(see Clause 2 of this Edition, Clause 2 of Edition 2001);
- added the definition of tensile breaking force (see 3.1 of this Edition);
- deleted “The equipment used for debugging shall meet the requirements of
6.1” (see 5.2 of Edition 2001);
- deleted “The equipment that provides a standard test environment shall
meet the requirements of 6.2” (see 5.3 of Edition 2001);
- added what needs to be given in the test report (see Clause 11 of this
Edition).
This Part uses translation method to equivalently adopt ISO 3342:2011 “Textile
glass - Mats - Determination of tensile breaking force”. It made the following
editorial modifications:
- modified the standard name.
The Chinese document which has consistency with the international normative
reference in this Part is as follows:
- GB/T 2918-1998 “Plastics - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and
testing” (ISO 291:1997, IDT).
Test method for glass mats - Part 2: Determination of
tensile breaking force
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 6006 specifies a method for the determination of the tensile
breaking force of textile glass mats.
The method is intended for chopped strand mats and continuous strand mats.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of
this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated
references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any
amendments) applies.
ISO 291, Plastics - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 tensile breaking force
maximum force required to break the test specimen in a tensile test carried to
rupture
NOTE: It is generally expressed in newtons (N).
4 Principle
A pre-conditioned test specimen of standard dimensions is subjected to tension
by a suitable mechanical device which indicates the tensile breaking force on a
recorder or scale.
NOTE: The test results might vary significantly depending on whether they are obtained
on rolls of mat or on the mat prior to winding into rolls (normally, the result is higher prior to
winding). The method describes the procedure for testing rolls of mat.
