Foreword
This Part is one of the national serial standards of “Fastener Surface Treatment”. Such
serial standards include as follows:
a) GB/T 5267.1-2002 Fasteners - Electroplated Coatings;
b) GB/T 5267.2-2002 Fasteners-Non-Electrolytically Applied Zinc Flake Coatings.
This Part equivalently adopts international standard of ISO 4042:1999 Fasteners –
Electroplated Coatings (English Edition).
This Part replaced GB/T 5267-1985 Electroplated Coatings on Threaded Fasteners.
Compared with GB/T 5267-1985, this Part has the major changes as follows:
--- Modify standard number (the Edition 1985 is GB/T 5267; this Edition is GB/T
5267.1);
--- Adjust the contents of terms and definitions (Clause 2 of Edition 1985; Clause 3
of this Edition);
--- Cancel the use conditions of electroplated coatings (4.2 of Edition 1985);
--- Increase the provision on the upper limit of the thickness of coatings with P =
0.2~0.3mm; adjust the provision on the upper limit of coatings with other pitches
(Table 4 and 5 in Clause 5 of Edition 1985; Table 2 of this Edition);
--- Cancel the provision of old standard on the coating thickness inspection and
acceptance; adopt the provision of GB/T 90.1 (Clause 8 of Edition 1985; Clause
11 of this Edition);
--- Adjust and supplement the information on removal of hydrogen embrittlement
(Clause 9 and Annex C of Edition 1985; Clause 6 and Annex A of this Edition);
--- Cancel the determination of local thickness (Annex B of Edition 1985);
--- Add the code marking system for the thickness of the electroplated coatings of
threaded parts (Clause 13 and Annex E of this Edition);
--- Adjust the specified contents of “Guidance on Procedures that may be Adopted
to Accommodate Thick Coatings” (Annex E of Edition 1985; Annex C of this
Edition);
--- Add Examples for Coating Designation (Annex F of this Edition).
This Part’s Annexes D, F are normative; while Annexes A, B, C, F, G are informative.
This Part was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Fasteners (CSB TS/TC 85).
This Part was drafted by Mechanical Engineering Research Institute.
This Part was first-time published in July 1985.
Fasteners – Electroplated Coatings
1 Scope
This Part specifies dimensional requirements for electroplated fasteners of steel or
copper alloy. It specifies coating thicknesses and gives recommendations for hydrogen
embrittlement relief for fasteners with high tensile strength or hardness and for surface-
hardened fasteners.
This Part primarily concerns the electroplating of threaded fasteners, but it may also
be applied to other threaded parts. For the applicability to screws that cut or form their
own mating threads, see clause 8.
The specifications given in this Part may also be applied to non-threaded parts such
as washers and pins.
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part of GB/T 5267
through reference in this Part. For dated references, the subsequent amendments
(excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however, parties who
reach an agreement based on this Part are encouraged to study if the latest versions
of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the
referenced document applies.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Part, the definitions given in GB/T 11374 (in particular, the
definitions of significant surface, measuring area, local thickness and minimum local
thickness) and GB/T 90.1 together with the following, apply.

Quantity of identical fasteners from the same manufacturing lot processed together at
one time.
3.2 Production run
