Road Vehicles - Safety Glazing Materials –
Method for the Determination of Solar Transmittance
1 Scope
This standard specifies the methods for the determination of solar ultraviolet transmittance, solar direct
transmittance, and solar total transmittance of the safety glazing materials of vehicles and other road
automotive vehicles.
This standard is applicable to the determination of solar transmittance of the safety glazing materials of
vehicles and other road automotive vehicles.
2 Normative References
The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this
standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision,
and parties who agree on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the latest
editions of the standards indicated below.
GB/T 2680-1994 Determination of visible light transmittance, solar direct transmittance, solar total
transmittance, and ultraviolet transmittance of building glazing as well as parameters of relevant window
glazing (neq ISO 9050.1990)
3 Definitions
The following definitions are adopted by this standard.
3.1 Transmittance
It is the ratio of transmission flux and incidence flux, under specifically geometrical conditions and spectral
conditions.
3.2 Air Mass (Ratio)
It is the ratio of the air mass, between the observer and the sun, TO the air mass, when the observer stands on
the sea level and when the sun is directly above the observer, under normal atmosphere.
3.3 Solar Indirect Transmittance
It is the ratio of the energy which is radiated again into the vehicle after being absorbed by the safety glazing
materials, TO the absorbed solar radiation energy.
3.4 Convention A
