Foreword
This Standard is the revision of GB/T 4789.11-1994 "Microbiological examination of food
hygiene - Examination of Streptococcus hemolyticus".
Compared with GB/T 4789.11-1994, main changes of this Standard are as follows.
- The format of the standard’s text and wordings were modified according to GB/T 1.1-
2000.
- The "Devices and Materials" in the previous edition were modified and normalized.
GB/T 4789.11-1994 shall be abolished simultaneously from the implementation date of this
Standard.
This Standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health of the
People's Republic of China.
Drafting organizations of this Standard. Beijing Epidemic Prevention Station, and Chinese
Center for Disease Control and Prevention Nutrition and Food Security.
Chief drafters of this Standard. Liu Yixian, Ran Lu, Fu Ping, and Yao Jinghui.
This Standard was issued for the first time in 1984, revised for the first time in 1994, and it
is revised now for the second time.

Examination of Streptococcus hemolyticus
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the examination method of streptococcus hemolytics in foods.
This Standard is applicable to the examination of streptococcus hemolytics in various foods
and food poisoning specimens.
2 Normative References
The provisions contained in the following documents become part of this Standard when
they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all the modifications (excluding
corrections) or revisions made thereafter shall not be applicable to this Standard. For the
undated documents so quoted, the latest editions shall be applicable to this Standard.

3 Devices and Materials
3.1 Refrigerator. 0ºC~4ºC.
3.2 Thermostatic incubator. 36ºC±1ºC.
3.3 Thermostat water bath pot. 36ºC±1ºC.
3.4 Microscope. 10x~l00x.
3.5 Homogenizer or sterilized mortar.
3.6 Centrifuge. 4000r/min.
3.7 Table balance. 0g~500g, accurate to 0.5g.
3.8 Sterilized test tube. 10mm×100mm, 16mm×160 mm.
3.9 Sterilized sucker. 1mL (with 0.01 mL scale), 5mL, 10 mL (with 0.1mL scale).
3.10 Sterilized conical flask. 100mL.
3.11 Sterilized culture dish. diameter 90 mm.
3.12 Sterilized cotton sticks, tweezers etc.
4 Culture medium and reagent
4.1 Glucose meat infusion broth. According to the provisions in 4.1 of GB/T 4789.28-2003.
Add 1% glucose to the meat infusion broth.
h-24 h at 36ºC± 1ºC, it is positive if the bacteriostat occurs, at the same time, use the known
positive bacterial strains as the contrast.
