This standard refers to ASTM B 249-04 “General requirements for wrought
copper and copper alloy rod, bar, shapes and forgings”.
This standard replaces GB/T 4423-1992 “Copper and copper-alloy cold-drawn
rod and bar” and GB/T 13809-1992 “Wrought copper and copper alloy
rectangular bars”, AND incorporates YS/T 76-1994 “Lead brass drawn rods with
tooth pattern”.
As compared with GB/T 4423-1992, GB/T 13809-1992, and YS/T 76-1994, this
standard has the following changes.
- Newly ADD the hard state of the four designations H90, QZr0.2, QZr0.4,
QSi1.8 AND the semi-hard state of HPb61-1.
- CHANGE the minimum diameter of the bar from 5 mm to 3 mm.
- DELETE the long sample elongation after fracture A11.3 from the mechanical
properties; RETAIN the short sample elongation after fracture A.
- MODIFY the dimensions and allowable deviations of the bar in accordance
with ASTM B 249, CLASSIFY the deviations of the diameter of copper and
copper alloy bars (opposite side distance) based on materials and
accuracies. Materials are divided into red copper, brass, bronze and
cupronickel, AND accuracy is divided into high accuracy and ordinary
accuracy. The accuracy is slightly increased as compared with that of the
original standard.
Appendix A of this standard is a normative appendix.

This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Nonferrous Metals
Standardization Technical Committee.

Copper and copper-alloy cold-drawn rod and bar
1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules and
marking, packaging, transportation, storage and contract contents of copper
and copper-alloy cold-drawn rod and bar.
This standard applies to round, rectangular, square and hexagonal copper and
copper-alloy cold-drawn rod and bar.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

3.6 Oxygen content
The oxygen content of oxygen-free copper bar shall comply with the provisions
of YS/T 335; AND it can be deemed as qualified if reaching to the level 1, 2 and
3 of standard pictures.
3.7 Internal quality
Bar fracture shall be dense and free from discontinuity. It is not allowed for such
defects as pinhole, delamination or inclusions which exceed the specifications
of YS/T 336.
The bars of T2, T3, TP2, TU1, TU2, H96 and QCr0.5 are free from fracture test.
The QCd1 bar is subjected to macroscopic inspection. Other alloy bars must
be subjected to fracture or ultrasonic detection.
3.8 Internal stress
In addition to H96, the brass, tin bronze, silicon bronze, and zinc-copper-nickel
bars of semi-hard, hard and ultra-hard state shall be subjected to stress
elimination treatment.
3.9 Surface quality
3.9.1 The surface of the bar shall be smooth and clean. It is not allowed for
cracks, peeling, pinhole, inclusion, or sensible ring-shape defects.
3.9.2 It is allowed for the bar surface to have local defects such as scratches,
pits, spots or indentations which do not allow the bar diameter to exceed the
allowable deviation. Slight straightening marks, fine lines, oxidation color, dark
and water marks, and oil traces will not serve as a discarding basis.
4 Test methods
4.1 Arbitration analysis method of chemical composition
The arbitration analysis method of the chemical composition of bars shall follow
the provisions of GB/T 5121.
4.2 Dimension measurement method
The dimensions of the product shall be measured by the measurement tools of
appropriate accuracy.
4.3 Test method of mechanical properties at ambient temperature
5.1.1 The bar shall be inspected by the technical supervision department of the
supplier to ensure that the product quality conforms to the provisions of this
standard; AND the quality certificate shall be filled.
5.1.2 The purchaser shall inspect the products received in accordance with the
provisions of this standard. If the test result does not conform to the provisions
of this standard and the contract, it shall be presented to the supplier in written
form AND shall be settled through consultation between the supplier and the
purchaser. Objection to the surface quality and dimensional deviation shall be
made within one month from the date of receipt of the product. The objection to
other performance shall be made within three months from the date of receipt
of the product. In the case of arbitration, the sampling for the arbitration shall
be conducted jointly by both the supplier and the purchaser.
5.2 Batching
Bars shall be submitted in batches, AND each batch shall be composed of the
bars of the same designation, state and specification. The mass of each batch
shall be not more than 5000 kg.
5.3 Inspection items
5.3.1 Each batch of products shall be subjected to chemical composition,
dimensional deviation, internal mass, electrical conductivity and surface quality
5.3.2 As for the bars in Table 7 having mechanical properties requirements,
each batch shall be subjected to mechanical properties test.
5.3.3 As for the oxygen-free copper bars, it shall be subjected to oxygen content
test in each batch.
5.3.4 As for the zirconium bronze bars requiring the electrical conductivity value
as specified in 3.5 AND the bars requiring internal stress elimination as
specified in 3.8, the supplier may not test it, BUT must guarantee it; if it is
required, it shall be tested respectively in accordance with the requirements of
4.4 and 4.7.
5.4 Sampling
Sampling of the product shall be in accordance with Table 9.
