Quality requirements of desiccant for foods
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, technical requirements, inspection rules,
labeling, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements of food
desiccants, and describes the inspection methods.
This document is applicable to the production, inspection, and sales of food desiccants
produced from food grade raw and auxiliary materials.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain the provisions which, through normative reference in
this document, constitute the essential provisions of this document. For the dated
referenced documents, only the versions with the indicated dates are applicable to this
document; for the undated referenced documents, only the latest version (including all
the amendments) is applicable to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 desiccant
A product that can absorb moisture through physical and/or chemical action, reduce the
humidity in the corresponding sealed package to a certain level, and keep it for a certain
period of time.
where:
W --- Moisture absorption rate, %;
m1 --- The mass of the sample after absorbing water, in grams (g);
m2 --- The mass of the sample before absorbing water, in grams (g).
6.3 Drop performance
Take 3 individually packaged desiccants and drop them naturally from a height of 1.2
m to a horizontal rigid smooth surface.
6.4 Right-angled tearing strength
The test shall be carried out according to the method specified in QB/T 1130.
6.5 Heat sealing strength
The test shall be carried out according to the method specified in QB/T 2358.
6.6 Anti-leakage powder performance
Choose a leak-proof powder performance testing machine with a vertical oscillation
amplitude of 40 mm and an oscillation frequency of 50~350 times/min. Put a clean
ultra-thin polyethylene (PE) bag with constant weight into a clean non-stick powder
test basket, and ensure the ultra-thin PE bag with constant weight is closely attached to
the non-stick powder test basket; place the non-stick powder test basket on the material
rack with an adjustable stroke of the equipment. Take multiple packs of desiccants with
a total amount of not less than 150 g and place them flat in the non-stick powder test
basket; close the equipment cover, start the oscillation function of the equipment and
vibrate for 30 minutes; open the equipment cover after the oscillation is over, take out
the ultra-thin PE bag with constant weight, and weigh it; record all dust values.
6.7 Tensile strength
The test shall be carried out according to the method specified in GB/T 1040.3.
6.8 Peel strength
The test shall be carried out according to the method specified in GB/T 8808.
7 Inspection rules
7.1 Batch formation
The same product produced by the same batch of raw materials, the same process, and
the same shift is a batch.
7.2 Sampling method and quantity
Samples are taken by random sampling method, and the number of samples shall meet
the inspection requirements.
7.3 Factory inspection
7.3.1 Each batch of products shall be inspected by the factory’s own quality inspection
department according to the factory inspection items. The products can leave the factory
after passing the inspection.
7.3.2 The factory inspection items shall include sensory, anti-leakage powder, drop
(except fiber desiccant), heat sealing strength, and right-angled tearing strength.
7.4 Type inspection
7.4.1 During normal production, the type inspection shall be carried out once a year. In
one of the following situations, type inspection shall also be carried out:
a) Appraisal of new product trial production;
b) During normal production, if there are major changes in raw materials and
processes, which may affect product quality;
c) When the production is resumed after the product has been discontinued for a long
time;
d) When there is a large difference between the factory inspection result and the last
type inspection result;
e) When the relevant national supervisory organization requests a type inspection.
7.4.2 The type inspection items include all or part of the items stipulated in 5.2 and 5.3
agreed by the supplier and the purchaser.
7.5 Judgment rules
7.5.1 If all inspection results conform to this document, this batch of products can be
determined to be qualified.
7.5.2 If any item is unqualified in the inspection results, double samples can be taken
from the same batch of products for re-inspection. If there is still one unqualified item
after the re-inspection, the batch of products shall be judged to be unqualified.
