Footwear - General test methods - Flexing resistance
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for flexing resistance of whole shoes
or soles.
This Standard applies to whole shoes, sole products or materials (sheets).
2 Normative references
The terms in the following documents become the terms of this Part by

of footwear and components for footwear (GB/T 22049-2008, ISO

3 Instruments and equipment
3.1 Flexing resistance tester
3.1.1 The flexing angle is adjustable from 0 °C to 55 °C.
3.1.2 The flexing frequency is adjustable within the range of 100 times/min to
300 times/min.
3.1.3 It is able to automatically shut down according to the preset number of
flexing.
3.1.4 A device is provided for blasting the flexure of the test piece.
3.2 Flexible test last
3.2.1 A steel shaft in size of ϕ 5.5 mm × 40 mm is fitted on the vertical line from
the first metatarsophalangeal site to the axis of last bottom of the flexible test
last. There is no bump on the surface of the steel shaft relative to the last bottom.
Use a cutting knife (3.4) to cut the whole shoes or soles with a slit of a specified
length; perform a flexion test on a flexing resistance tester at a certain angle
and frequency; then, measure the expanded length of the slit on the sole;
observe the changes in the upper surface, shoe sole, and upper sole (including
strips, bottom wall) bonding site at the same time.
Note: The whole shoe or sole can be directly subjected to the flexion test without cutting.
Whether cutting or not shall be determined according to the requirements of the
relevant product standards.
5.2 Test conditions
5.2.1 The flexing angle of the flexing resistance tester is (50 ± 1) ° (in case of
special requirements, it can be selected between 0° and 55°).
5.2.2 The flexing frequency of the flexing resistance tester is (230 ± 10) times /
min (in case of special requirements, it can be selected within the range of 100
times / min to 300 times / min).
5.3 Test procedure
5.3.1 Check the test pieces. If there are any impurities on the surface, use
gauze moistened with alcohol to wipe them clean.
5.3.2 Each test piece is equipped with a fitting flexible test last (3.2). Under
normal circumstances, the last size shall be 5 mm less than the footwear size
5.3.3 Clamp the test piece in the holder of the flexing resistance tester (3.1).
The flexion part of the metatarsophalangeal site of the sole surface coincides
with the axis of the movable axis of the holder (if cut, the cut part shall be on
this axis).
5.3.4 Adjust the eccentricity of the tester, so that the flexing angle reaches the
specified angle (5.2.1).
5.3.5 Bend the flexing resistance tester to the minimum flexing angle; observe
the position of the heel of the shoe; leave the sample in a natural state without
bending in any direction; otherwise, adjust the tilt angle of the holder, so that it
is in a natural state before adjusting the flexing angle.
5.3.6 Bend the flexing resistance tester to the maximum flexing angle; divide a
5 mm long incision in the middle part of the metatarsophalangeal flexing part of
the sole surface; cut the sole through.
5.3.7 Clear the counter of the tester; preset the number of flexing and flexing
frequency to the specified value; turn on the host after activating the blower.
5.3.8 During the operation of the tester, observe the clamping condition of the
test pieces. If there is looseness or a change in flexion position, the device shall
be shut down in time for adjustment.
5.3.9 After shutdown as per preset number of times, use a vernier caliper (3.3)
to measure, and visually inspect the change of the test piece.
5.3.9.1 Put the tester in the state of maximum flexion angle; measure the length
of the shoe sole cut after expansion, as well as the length and number of newly
generated cracks.
5.3.9.2 Remove the test pieces from the holder. Leave them in natural state;
observe the changes in upper, sole, and upper-sole (including strips, bottom
wall) bonding site.
6 Test result
6.1 The extended length of the sole cut, the length of the newly generated crack,
and the opening length of the joint of the upper sole (including the strip and the
bottom wall), in millimeters; the effective digit is to one decimal place.
6.2 The changes in the upper surface (such as cracking, cracked surface), shoe
sole (such as newly generated cracks, paint cracking or falling off), upper sole
(including strips, bottom wall) bonding site (such as adhesive failure) are
explained in words.
6.3 The test results of each shoe (sole) are indicated separately.
7 Test report
The test report shall contain the following contents:
a) number of this Part of GB/T 3903;
b) detailed description of the test pieces, including sample number, name,
specification, quantity, material;
c) test results, implemented in accordance with Chapter 6;
d) description of the test part and its surface treatment method;
e) environmental conditions and time for environmental conditioning and
testing of the test pieces;
f) test personnel and test date;
