Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020
"Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents".
This document is Part 3 of GB/T 3880 "Wrought aluminum and aluminum alloy plates,
sheets and strips for general engineering". GB/T 3880 has published the following parts:
- Part 1: Technical conditions of delivery;
- Part 2: Mechanical properties;
- Part 3: Tolerances on forms and dimensions.
This document replaces GB/T 3880.3-2012 "Wrought aluminum and aluminum alloy
plates, sheets and strips for general engineering - Part 3: Tolerances on forms and
dimensions". Compared with GB/T 3880.3-2012, in addition to structural adjustments
and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) DELETE the A and B alloy classifications (see 2.1.1 of the 2012 edition);
b) CHANGE the maximum thickness of cold-rolled plates and strips from 6.00 mm
to 7.00 mm, the maximum thickness of hot-rolled plates from 250.00 mm to
435.00 mm; CHANGE the thickness tolerance requirements; ADD the thickness
range requirements (see 6.1; 3.1 of the 2012 edition);
c) CHANGE the width deviation (see 6.2; 3.2 of the 2012 edition);
d) CHANGE the length deviation of the plate (see 6.3; 3.3 of the 2012 edition);
e) CHANGE the requirements for plate roughness; ADD the requirements for strip
roughness (see 6.4; 3.4 of the 2012 edition);
f) ADD the ordinary level requirements for plate diagonal deviation; CHANGE the
high-precision level requirements for diagonal deviation (see 6.6; 3.6 of the 2012
edition);
g) ADD the requirements for convexity (see 6.7);
h) ADD the requirements for roughness (see 6.8);
i) ADD the requirements for strip staggering and tower shape (see 6.9).
Please note that some contents of this document may involve patents. The issuing
agency of this document does not assume the responsibility for identifying patents.
Wrought aluminum and aluminum alloy plates, sheets and
strips for general engineering - Part 3: Tolerances on forms
and dimensions
1 Scope
This document specifies the dimensional deviation grade, technical requirements, test
methods of general industrial aluminum and aluminum alloy plates and strips.
This document applies to general industrial aluminum and aluminum alloy rolled plates
and strips (hereinafter referred to as "plates and strips").
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute the essential terms of this document
through normative references in the text. Among them, for dated references, only the
version of that date applies to this document; for undated references, the latest version
(including all amendments) applies to this document.
GB/T 1031 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) - Surface texture: Profile
method - Surface roughness parameters and their values
GB/T 8005.1 Aluminium and aluminium alloy terms and definitions - Part 1:
Product and method of processing and treatment
GB/T 8170 Rules of rounding off for numerical values and expression and
judgement of limiting values
GB/T 26492.3 Defects of wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys ingots and
products - Part 3: Defects for plates, sheets and strips
3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions, which are defined in GB/T 8005.1 and GB/T 26492.3, apply
to this document.
4 Symbols
The symbols in Table 1 apply to this document.
6.7 Center convexity
When the buyer has requirements for the center convexity of plates and strips, the
supplier and buyer shall negotiate and determine, meanwhile indicate in the order (or
contract). The convexity of the mother plate or mother strip of the plate or strip shall be
0% ~ 1.5%.
6.8 Roughness
When the purchaser has requirements for the surface roughness of cold-rolled plates
and strips, the supplier and the purchaser shall negotiate and determine, meanwhile
indicate it in the order (or contract). The surface roughness (Ra) of cold-rolled plates
and strips shall not exceed 0.50 μm.
6.9 Staggered layers and tower shapes
The staggered layers of strips shall not exceed 3 mm; the tower shape shall not exceed
10 mm (except for the inner 5 circles and the outer 2 circles). When the purchaser has
special requirements for the staggered layers and tower shapes of strips, the supplier
and the purchaser shall negotiate and determine, meanwhile indicate it in the order (or
contract).
6.10 Others
Where there are other requirements for the dimensional deviation of plates and strips,
the supplier and the purchaser shall negotiate and determine, meanwhile indicate it in
the order (or contract).
7 Test methods
7.1 Dimension rounding
Dimension measurement values are not allowed to be rounded off; the method for
determining the limit value shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 8170.
7.2 Thickness
The thickness of plates and strips shall be measured at a distance of not less than 10
mm from the side and not less than 115 mm from the end, using a micrometer which
has an accuracy of 0.01 mm or a measuring tool which has the same accuracy.
7.3 Width and length
The width and length of plates and strips shall be measured using tools which have
corresponding accuracy.
7.4 Unevenness
7.4.1 Unevenness of plate
7.4.1.1 General requirements
7.4.1.1.1 Place the plate freely on the platform; wait for it to balance and stabilize;
measure the warping height of the end. Use tools of corresponding accuracy to measure
the gap value (i.e. wave height) between the plate surface and the platform. For plates
with multiple waves, the corresponding wave distance shall also be measured. When
making measurement:
- Where there are several waves on a plate at the same time, it shall measure the
largest one;
- Edge waves can be directly measured by a feeler gauge or ruler;
- The middle waves of products which have a thickness greater than 2.0 mm are
measured by a level ruler, ruler or wedge ruler. The level ruler shall be parallel to
the platform during measurement. If it is not parallel, it shall be parallelized with
the help of a pad;
- The middle waves of products, which have a thickness of no more than 2.0 mm,
are measured by straightening with a feeler gauge or a thin wire (preferably a
polyamide wire). The weight of the straightened thin wire shall not deform the plate.
7.4.1.1.2 Calculate the roughness according to the wave height and length (or
width/wave distance). The value is expressed as a percentage, dimensionless; the
calculation result is expressed to one decimal place. The value is rounded off according
to the provisions of GB/T 8170.
7.4.1.2 Single wave unevenness
7.4.1.2.1 Measure the length and wave height of the plate, as shown in Figure 1. Divide
the wave height by the length of the plate to obtain the longitudinal roughness (d0/l).
