Titanium and titanium alloys - permissible variations
of chemical composition for wrought product analysis
1 Scope
This Part specifies the permissible variations of chemical composition for
titanium and titanium alloy pressure wrought products (plates, strips, foils, tubes,
rods, wires, forging stocks, and profiles).
This Part applies to the check analysis of chemical composition for titanium and
titanium alloy pressure wrought products.
This Part does not apply to the analysis of exit-factory products of the
production plant.
This Part does not apply to the check analysis of changes in the content of
impurity elements (such as hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen) caused by the
reprocessing of the product by the purchaser.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. For the dated references, their
subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest editions of these
documents are applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest
editions apply to this Standard.
GB/T 4698 (all parts) Methods for chemical analysis of titanium sponge,
titanium and titanium alloys
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms apply to this Standard.
3.1 Check analysis
The chemical composition analysis by the purchaser sampling on the wrought
product.
3.2 Permissible variation of chemical composition
The permissible difference between the measured value of the check analysis
of chemical composition and the limit value specified in the standard.
4 Requirements
4.1 General sampling rules
4.1.1 For products used for sampling, it shall remove oxides and contamination
layers. Their surface shall be free of water, oil stain, scales, dirt, and other
foreign matter.
4.1.2 The sampling tool shall be cleaned beforehand.
4.1.3 When the sample is cut, it shall not use grease and other friction reducing
agents. The cutting speed shall be appropriate, to prevent the sample from
oxidizing due to heat generation. It shall not be cooled by water injection.
4.1.4 All samples taken shall be magnetically-separated and cleaned. Samples
which need to be stored for a long time must be argon-filled stored.
4.2 Sampling positions
The specific sampling positions for check analysis shall comply with the
provisions of the product standard or be agreed upon between the supplier and
the purchaser.
4.3 Arbitration analysis method of chemical composition
The arbitration analysis of chemical composition of titanium and titanium alloys
shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T 4698. The analysis of elements
not included in GB/T 4698 is carried out using the current analysis method of
the supplier or is determined by negotiation between the supplier and the
purchaser.
4.4 Permissible variations of chemical composition for wrought product
analysis
4.4.1 The permissible variations of chemical composition for titanium and
titanium alloy wrought products shall, except as otherwise specified in the
product standard or order form, comply with the requirements of Table 1.
4.4.2 The value obtained by the check analysis shall not exceed the upper limit
of the specified chemical composition range plus positive deviation; or shall not
exceed the lower limit plus negative deviation. The same element only allows
