Passenger detection device for vehicle seat belt reminder
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods,
and inspection rules for the passenger detection device for vehicle seat belt
reminder mounted in a car seat (hereinafter referred to as “passenger detection
device”).
This Standard is applicable to the passenger detection devices in the front
passenger seats of Class M1 vehicles. For the passenger detection devices in
other seats of Class M1 vehicles and those on other types of vehicles, this
Standard can be referred to for implementation.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
dated references, only the editions with the dates indicated are applicable to
this document. For undated references, only the latest editions (including all the
amendments) are applicable to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined by GB/T 24551 and the following ones are
applicable to this document.
3.1 Passenger detection device
A device for detecting the occupancy of a seat, consisting of a detection unit
and a connection harness.
3.2 Seat occupied
The seat is occupied by a passenger who is not lighter than the Hybrid III 5th
percentile female weight.
4 Requirements
4.1 Functional requirements
4.1.1 When the detection function test is carried out in accordance with the
test method specified in 5.2, the detection device displays that the seat is
occupied, and the result is regarded as “conforming”; otherwise it is regarded
as “non-conforming”.
4.1.2 When the non-detection function test is carried out in accordance with
the test method specified in 5.3, the detection device displays that the seat is
not occupied, and the result is regarded as “conforming”; otherwise it is
regarded as “non-conforming”.
4.2 Application requirements
The application requirements include the cyclic damp heat reliability, kneeling
durability and reliability, and durability and reliability of human body entry-exit
seat. After the product of application requirements is tested in accordance with
the test methods specified in 5.4, 5.5, and 5.6, the functional test is carried out
according to 5.2 and 5.3, which shall meet the requirements of 4.1.
4.3 Environmental adaptability requirements
The environmental adaptability requirements include cyclic cold heat
adaptability, thermal shock adaptability, and chemical corrosion resistance.
5 Test methods
5.1 Test environment
The room temperature environment is defined as temperature of (25 ± 3) °C
and relative humidity of (45 ~ 75) %.
5.2 Detection function
5.2.1 Test devices
The test devices used for the detection function test include.
5.2.2 Test procedures
5.2.2.1 MOUNT the specimens in matched car seats at a temperature of (25
± 3) °C, (-40 ± 2) °C and (55 ± 2) °C for at least 6h, respectively. After storing in
each temperature condition, KEEP the seat in this temperature environment
until the test is completed. The seats stored under low-temperature and high-
temperature environments are allowed to be removed from the temperature
environment box and tested at room temperature. However, the test shall be
completed within 15min.
5.2.2.6 REFER to Figure 1 for minimum detection area. MOVE the detection
object or real person right by 20mm. RECORD the output of the detection
device at this time.
5.2.2.7 After the detection object or real person is evacuated, the seat is in a
vacant state. The detection device displays that the seat is not occupied.
5.3 Non-detection function
5.3.1 Test devices
The test devices used for the non-detection function test include.
5.3.2.2 PLACE the seat on the test bench. CONNECT the sample to the
detection device. When it is first confirmed that the seat is in a vacant state, the
detection device displays that the seat is not occupied.
5.3.2.3 PLACE the tool 1 above the passenger detection device on the seat
surface, covering as much of the entire passenger detection device area as
possible. There shall not be less than two detection positions. When placing the
tool 1, MAKE sure that its bottom surface of 150mm × 300mm is placed
downward, as shown in Figure 3.RECORD the output of the detection device
when the tool 1 is placed at each detection position.

5.3.2.4 HOLD the handle of the tool 2.PLACE the probe of the tool 2
perpendicular to the seat surface. The detection position shall be selected in
the passenger detection device area. There shall not be less than three
detection positions. RECORD the output of the detection device when the tool
2 is placed at each detection position.
5.4 Cyclic damp heat test
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Inspection classification
The inspections are divided into exit-factory inspection and type inspection.
6.2 Exit-factory inspection
6.2.1 The exit-factory inspection items, sampling methods, and acceptance
6.3 Type inspection
6.3.1 The type inspection shall be carried out under one of the following
circumstances.
6.3.2 The specimens used for the type inspection shall be randomly selected
from the products that have passed the exit-factory inspection and are able to
cover the entire processing technology. The type inspection items are all items
listed in Table 1.
6.3.3 The specimens required for all type inspection items constitute a
specimen group. When all items listed in Table 1 are tested to be “conforming”,
it is determined that the type inspection for this group of specimens is qualified.
