Basic requirements for wires and connectors of ATVs
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the basic safety requirements and test methods for
wires of ATVs.
This Standard applies to wires used in ATVs.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
For the dated references, only the editions with the dates indicated are
applicable to this document. For the undated references, the latest edition
(including all the amendments) are applicable to this document.
QC/T 413-2002 Basic Technical Requirements for Automotive Electric
Equipment
QC/T 417.1 Road Vehicles - Connections for On-board Electrical Wiring
Harnesses - Part 1. Definitions, Test Methods and General Performance
Requirements
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Wires
Conductor, terminal, and connector assemblies for connecting electric parts of
ATVs. The wires include main, branch, embranchment point, juncture, terminal,
etc.
3.2 Main
The portion of the wires in which two or more conductors are bundled together.
3.3 Branch
The portion of the wires in which the end of conductor is not wrapped or a single
conductor.
4.7 Insulation withstand voltage performance
Non-interconnected conductor terminals can withstand the test of a 50 Hz, 550
V sinusoidal waveform voltage for 1 min. The insulation shall not be broken
down.
4.8 Water immersion test
The wires, after the water immersion test, shall meet the requirements of 4.5.
4.9 Temperature variation test
The wires, after the temperature variation test, shall meet the requirements of
4.5.
4.10 Vibration test
After the wires are subjected to the vibration test, the insulation wrapping shall
not be loose. The requirements of 4.3, 4.4, and 4.5 shall be met.
4.11 Salt spray test
The wires, after the salt spray test, shall meet the requirements of 4.5.
4.12 Solvent test
The wires, after the solvent test, shall meet the requirements of 4.5.
4.13 Flame-retardant property
The burning flame of wires’ insulating material shall be extinguished within 70
s.
5 Test methods
5.1 Test environmental conditions
The test environmental conditions are as follows.
- Test temperature 18 °C~28 °C;
- Relative humidity 45%~75%;
- Atmospheric pressure 86 kPa~106 kPa.
5.2 Wires appearance, conductor color and diameter
USE visual inspection and Vernier caliper inspection. It shall meet the
requirements of 4.1~4.4.
5.3 Test of tensile strength of terminal
The sample to be tested shall be sampled on the actual product. The length of
the sample piece shall guarantee the minimum length fixed to the tensile testing
machine. The range of tensile testing machine shall be determined according
to the need. The indication error shall be no more than ±1%. The fixture for the
sample piece shall be moved at a uniform speed. The moving speed of the
fixture is a constant value in the range of 25 mm/min~120 mm/min. For the
tensile test of the connection between the conductor and the terminal and of
the juncture, along the axis of the conductor, the tensile force shall be applied.
5.4 Insulation withstand voltage test
It shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of 4.8 of QC/T 413-
2002.
5.5 Water immersion test
The wires are completely immersed in water for 1 h and then taken out. It is
allowed to wipe dry the water stain on the surface of wires. Then the test of 4.5
is repeated.
5.6 Temperature variation test
It shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in 4.10 of QC/T
413-2002.
5.7 Vibration test
It shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in 4.12 of QC/T
413-2002.
5.8 Salt spray test
It shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in 4.13 of QC/T
413-2002.
5.9 Solvent test
3 or more solvents such as brake fluid, antifreeze, engine oil, gasoline, and
glass cleaner are mixed in equal proportions. After immersing the wires in the
above liquid for 20 h, the wires are taken out from the liquid. The surface is
wiped; and exposed to air for 30 min. Then the test of 4.5 is repeated.
5.10 Flame-retardant property
