This part does not point out all possible security issues. The user is responsible for taking appropriate safety and health measures and ensuring compliance with the conditions stipulated by relevant national laws and regulations. 1 Scope This part of GB/T 3286 specifies the gravimetric method to determine the loss on ignition. This part applies to the determination of loss on ignition in limestone and dolomite; it also applies to the determination of loss on ignition in metallurgical lime. 2 Normative references The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this standard. GB/T 2007.2 General rules for the sampling and sample preparation of minerals in bulk. Sample preparation by manual method GB/T 6379.2 Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods and results - Part 2: Basic method for the determination of repeatability and reproducibility of a standard measurement method GB/T 8170 Rules of rounding off for numerical values & expression and judgement of limiting values 3 Principles The sample is placed in a platinum crucible; the temperature is gradually increased to 1050 °C ± 50 °C in a high temperature furnace to burn it to a constant mass. The reduced mass is the loss on ignition. 4 Instruments In the analysis, only the usual laboratory instruments and equipment are used. 5 Sample preparation 5.1 Prepare specimen according to GB/T 2007.2. 5.2 The specimen shall be processed to a particle size less than 0.125 mm. 5.3 Limestone and dolomite specimens are dried at 105 °C ~ 110 °C for 2 h before analysis; they are placed in a desiccator to cool to room temperature. 5.4 The preparation of metallurgical lime specimens shall be carried out quickly. After the specimen is prepared, they shall be placed in a ground-mouth bottle or plastic bag and sealed immediately; stored in a desiccator. The specimens are not dried before analysis. 6 Analytical procedures 6.1 Number of determinations For the same specimen (5.3 or 5.4), make at least 2 independent determinations. 6.2 Sample mass Weigh 1.00 g of sample, accurate to 0.0001 g. For metallurgical lime, the sample shall be quickly weighed. 6.3 Determination 6.3.1 Spread the sample (6.2) flat in a platinum crucible (including a platinum cover) that has been burned and weighed at 1050 °C. 6.3.2 Place the platinum crucible in a high-temperature furnace where the furnace temperature is lower than 300 °C. Add the platinum cover to leave a gap between the platinum crucible and the platinum cover. The high- temperature furnace is gradually heated. When the temperature reaches 800 °C ~ 900 °C, open the furnace door 2 ~ 3 times, 1 min for each time of opening. Continue to heat up to 1050 °C ± 50 °C; burn it at this temperature for 60 minutes. ......
