Foreword
GB/T 32260 Destructive Tests on Welds in Metallic Materials – Cold Cracking Tests
for Weldments – Arc Welding Processes is divided into the following three parts.
--- Part 1. General;
--- Part 2. Self-Restraint Tests;
--- Part 3. Externally Load Tests.
This Part is Part 1 of GB/T 32260.
This Part was drafted as per the rules stipulated in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part uses redrafting method to modify ISO 17642-1.2004 Destructive Tests on
Welds in Metallic Materials – Cold Cracking Tests for Weldments – Arc Welding
Processes – Part 1. General.
Compared with ISO 17642-1.2004, this Part has the following technical differences
and their causes are as follows.
--- For the normative references, this Part makes adjustment against the technical
difference, so that adapt to China’s technical conditions. The adjustment is
mainly reflected in Chapter 2 “Normative References”, which is as follows.
Increase the GB/T 3375 Welding Terminology;
Replace partial international standards and European Standards quoted in
ISO 17642-1.2005 by China’s corresponding standards.
This Part was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National
Standardization Technical Committee of Welding (SAC/TC 55).
Drafting organizations of this Part. Shanghai Institute of Special Equipment Inspection
& Technical Research, Harbin Welding Institute, Dongguan Qiancheng Laser
Technology Co., Ltd., China Special Equipment Inspection And Research Institute,
Tianjin Golden Bridge Welding Materials Group Co., Ltd., and China Petroleum
Natural Gas Pipeline Scientific Research Academy.
Drafting staffs of this Part. Xu Bin, Su Jinhua, Ou Xiaojun, Wang Kenan, Shi Kun,
Yang Yongmei, Sui Yongli, and Pu Dongguang.
Destructive Tests on Welds in Metallic Materials –
Cold Cracking Tests for Weldments –
Arc Welding Processes – Part 1. General
1 Scope
This Part in GB/T 32260 specifies the basic terms, definitions, and principles of cold
cracking tests.
This Part is applicable to assess the sensitivity of cold cracking on the welding
materials, base metals, and welded joints.

The following terms and definitions, and those defined in GB/T 3375 are applicable to
this document.
3.1 Cold cracks
It indicates the welding cracks generated when the welded joints cooled off to lower
temperature (for steel, below Ms temperature). Cold cracks are the local cracking
