Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 3198-2003 “Aluminum and aluminum alloys foil”.
As compared with GB/T 3198-2003, the main differences are as follows.
- In this standard, EXTEND the thickness of aluminum foil to 0.0045 mm ~
0.2000 mm, ADD the product of a thickness of 0.0045 mm ~ < 0.0060 mm;
- In this standard, TIGHTEN the requirements for thickness deviation,
pinholes, joints, towers, split layers, and appearance quality. DIVIDE the
accuracy of some indicators into ordinary grade, high-precision grade, and
ultra-high-precision grade;
- In this standard, ADD the size and accuracy requirements of the tube core;
- In this standard, ADD and ADJUST the requirements for the mechanical
properties of some brands and specifications;
- In this standard, ADD the detection method for average thickness;
- In this standard, ADD the requirements for the detection of toxic and
hazardous elements.
This standard was drafted using the redrafting method with reference to EN
546.1997 “Aluminum and aluminum alloy foil”. Its consistency with EN546.1997
is not equivalent.
This standard was proposed by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry
Association.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Non-ferrous Metals
Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 243).

1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules and
markings, packaging, transportation, storage and quality certificates and
contracts (or orders) for aluminum and aluminum alloy foils.
This standard applies to general industrial aluminum and aluminum alloy foil
(hereinafter referred to as aluminum foil).
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.

3 Requirements
3.1 Product classification
3.1.1 Grade, status, specifications
Aluminum foil grades, status, specifications are as shown in Table 1. When the
purchaser needs other grades, status, and specifications, it is determined by
both the supplier and the purchaser through negotiation, and specified in the
contract (or purchase order).

4.8 Brush water test results
Aluminum foil brush water test is in accordance with the method specified in
GB/T 22638.5.
4.9 DC resistance
The DC resistance of aluminum foil is tested in accordance with the method
specified in GB/T 22638.6. The direct current resistance of aluminum foil can
be tested by the supplier using a blank (the specimen surface shall be clean,
without oil mark) with a specified thickness (usually 0.25 mm ~ 0.36 mm) as the
test result of the aluminum foil.
4.10 Joint
Calculate the number of joints per coil of foil in accordance with the joint marking;
calculate the joint pitch based on the thickness of the interlaminar wall at the
end of the aluminum foil coil (measured with a gauge with corresponding
accuracy).
4.11 Tube core
The tube core size deviation is measured with a gauge that can ensure
corresponding accuracy, the tube core material is guaranteed by the supplier,
other items are visually inspected.
4.12 Appearance quality
The appearance quality of the aluminum foil is visually checked.
5 Inspection rules
5.1 Inspection and acceptance
5.1.1 Aluminum foil shall be inspected by the technical supervision department
of the supplier, to ensure that the product quality meets the requirements of this
standard and the contract (or purchase order), the quality certificate shall be
completed.
5.1.2 The purchaser shall re-inspect to the received product in accordance with
the provisions of this standard. When the results of the reinspection are
inconsistent with the provisions of this standard and the contract (or purchase
order), they shall be submitted to the supplier in writing and shall be resolved
through consultation between the supplier and the purchaser. Any objections
that fall within the surface quality and dimensional deviations shall be indicated

5.5 Determination of test results
5.5.1 When the chemical composition is unqualified, for the product whose
melting number can be distinguished, this melting number is unqualified, whilst
the other melting number is inspected in order, the qualified products are
delivered. If the melting number cannot be distinguished, the corresponding
products are unqualified.
5.5.2 When the dimensional deviation, appearance quality and joints are
unqualified, the aluminum foil is determined to be unqualified.
5.5.3 When the tensile properties are unqualified, double the number of
specimens shall be taken from the coils of the unqualified specimen for
repeated tests. If the results of the repeated tests are all qualified, the batch of
aluminum foil is qualified. If the repeated test results still have unqualified items,
the batch of aluminum foil is judged as unqualified. After negotiation between
suppliers and purchasers, the batch of aluminum foil can be inspected by the
supplier on a coil-by-coil basis, the qualified products are delivered.
5.5.4 When the fracture strength fails, the batch of aluminum foil is unqualified.
5.5.5 When the pinhole is unqualified, this batch of aluminum foil is unqualified.
However, the supplier is allowed to inspect by coil, and the qualified products
are delivered.
5.5.6 If the adhesion result is not qualified, the batch of aluminum foil is judged
as unqualified.
5.5.7 When the result of brushing water test fails, the batch of aluminum foil is
judged as unqualified.
5.5.8 When the surface wetting tension test fails, the batch of aluminum foil is
judged as unqualified.
5.5.9 When the DC resistance is unqualified, for the product whose melting
number can be distinguished, this melting number is unqualified, whilst the
other melting number is inspected in order, the qualified products are delivered.
If the melting number cannot be distinguished, the corresponding products are
unqualified.

h) Test results of various analysis items (when contracts or orders require);
i) Inspection chop of the supplier's technical supervision department;

k) This standard number.
7 Contract (or purchase order) content
The following items shall be included in the contract (or purchase order) for
ordering the products listed in this standard.
a) Product name;
b) Grade;
c) Status;
d) Specifications;
e) Weight (including single coil weight);
f) Tube core material and specifications;
g) Performance requirement levels;
h) The items “shall be marked in the contract (or purchase order)” as required
by this standard;
i) This standard number;
j) Packaging requirements;
k) Negotiation results when other content than this standard is added.
