Foreword
This Standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB/T 2983-2008 "Series of motorcycle tyres".
Compared with GB/T 2983-2008, the main technical changes are as follows:
- ADD the definitions of centrifugal radius and rolling radius (see 3.1 and 3.2);
- Delete the provision that the small-diameter tyres for code-designated
series motorcycle tyres are not suitable for off-road operations, such as
transportation (see 4.1 of the 2008 edition);
- Delete the provision that the maximum speed of small-diameter tyres for
metric series motorcycle tyres is 120 km/h (see 4.2 of the 2008 edition);
- ADD the additional mark indication method for the load index and speed
symbol of the moped tyres; ADD the load index value of each specification
(see 5.3 and Table 10, Table 11);
- ADD centrifugal radius and rolling radius as use reference dimensions (see
6.5 and Appendix C);
- ADD a total of 5 new specifications, 3.60-18, 4.60-17, 2.75-8, 3.75-12, and
5.00-12, to the motorcycle tyres of code-designated series; ADD 5
reinforced and 4 heavy-duty varieties to the previous specifications (see
Table 1 and Table 2);
- For the last sentence of the footnote “a” for the new tyre design section
width in specification parameter tables of the metric series motorcycle tyres,
modify it to “For tyres with a tread that is wider than its section width, the
total tread width is designated as the section width. And it shall not be less
than its minimum design section width value.” So that it is applicable to
tread profiles other than Type A; and also applicable to the code-designated
series (see Table 1, Table 2, Table 5, Table 6, and Table 7; Table 5, Table 6,
and Table 7 of the 2008 edition);
- Modify the outer diameter design and manufacturing tolerance factor of the
footnote "b" in specification parameter tables for the motorcycle tyres of
code-designated series and metric series; ADD the selected values of
tolerance factor for different tread patterns (see Table 1, Table 2, Table
5~Table 7; Table 1, Table 2, Table 5~Table 7 of the 2008 edition);
- ADD the value regulation of "taking the integer value according to GB/T
8170" when calculating the tyre dimension tolerance, to the footnotes of all
tyre specification parameter tables (see Table 1, Table 2, Table 5, Table 6,
Series of motorcycle tyres
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, indication
method of specification mark and its additional mark, specifications, dimensions,
pressure, load, and rims of motorcycle tyres.
This Standard applies to new pneumatic tyres for motorcycles.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
For the dated references, only the editions with the dates indicated are
applicable to this document. For the undated references, the latest edition
(including all the amendments) are applicable to this document.
GB 518 Motorcycle tyres
GB/T 6326 Tyre terms and definitions (GB/T 6326-2014, ISO 4223-1:2002)
GB/T 8170 Rules of rounding off for numerical values and expression and
judgement of limiting values
GB/T 13202 Series of motorcycle rims (GB/T 13202-2015, ISO 4249-3:2010,
ISO 5995-2:1988, ISO 6054-2:1990)
3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 6326 and the following ones apply to
this document.
3.1
Centrifugal radius
The allowable maximum dynamic radius of tyre expansion under the action of
centrifugal force when the high-speed motorcycle tyre is running at its highest
speed capability. The centrifugal radius is related to the maximum speed of the
vehicle. Together with the maximum use peripheral dimension, it is used as a
reference when designing the tyre clearance of the corresponding high-speed
motorcycle.
3.2
Rolling radius
The rolling circumference of motorcycle tyres divided by 2π is the rolling radius.
It is used as a reference for tyre selection or vehicle design and adjustment.
Note: The distance covered by a tyre rolling a full circle under specified conditions is the
rolling circumference.
4 Classification
4.1 Motorcycle tyres of code-designated series
This series of tyres are suitable for rims with a nominal rim diameter of 4~21.
Tyres with a nominal rim diameter greater than or equal to 14 shall use
cylindrical bead seat rims (WM type) or 5° inclined-bottom bead seat rims (MT
type).
Tyres with a nominal rim diameter less than or equal to 12 shall use divided
rims (DT type), or drop center rims (DC type), or 5° inclined-bottom bead seat
rims (MT type). The maximum running speed is 100 km/h.
4.2 Motorcycle tyres of metric series
This series stipulates metric series motorcycle tyres with nominal tyre aspect
ratios of 30, 35, 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, 100. They are suitable for
cylindrical bead seat rims (WM type) or 5° inclined-bottom bead seat rims (MT
type) with nominal rim diameters of 8~24.
4.3 Moped tyres
This series of tyres are suitable for two-wheeled or three-wheeled mopeds, with
a maximum speed of not more than 50 km/h and an engine working capacity of
not more than 50 mL.
This series of tyres are suitable for divided rims (DT type) and drop center rims
(DC type) with nominal rim diameters of 8~12; inclined-bottom straight-side rims
and cylindrical bead seat rims (WM type) with nominal rim diameters of 14~22.
