Environmental testing - Part 2: Test methods - Test
Kca: High concentration sulfur dioxide
1 Scope
This document specifies the general conditions and methods for the test of
samples in the alternating climate of condensed water containing high
concentration sulfur dioxide, especially for the sulfur dioxide concentration that
is not included in GB/T 9789-2008, so that when tests are carried out in different
laboratories, comparable test results can be obtained.
This document is used to determine the suitability of products and their
materials in chemically corrosive environments.
The content of this document does not include sample shape, sample
preparation and analysis, and evaluation of test results. Regarding these
provisions, refer to the relevant standards or negotiate in accordance with the
specific situation.
This test cannot be used directly for the comparison of corrosion resistance,
unless the application environment of the anti-corrosion system is similar.
Because the corrosion test conditions are very different from the actual
application conditions, the corrosion process and the corrosion mechanism are
different.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute the indispensable clauses
of this document through normative references in the text. For dated references,
only the version corresponding to that date is applicable to this document; for
undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) is applicable
to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.
4 Test equipment and materials
See Chapter 3 of GB/T 9789-2008.
The corrosion effect inspection of the test chamber shall be in accordance with
Appendix B.
5 Test procedure
5.1 Overview
If the concentration is not specified in this test, carry out according to the test
Kca1.
In the same test equipment, samples to be tested at the same time should have
the same anti-corrosion system, because the interaction between samples of
different anti-corrosion systems is inevitable. When testing different anti-
corrosion systems at the same time, as well as when the materials are different,
it should be considered that the effects of sulfur dioxide on them are often
different.
5.2 Samples and pretreatment
In accordance with Chapter 4 of GB/T 9789-2008 and relevant regulations.
5.3 Initial inspection
Appearance inspection and/or electrical and mechanical performance testing
shall be carried out on the samples according to the requirements of relevant
specifications.
5.4 Sample exposure method
In accordance with Chapter 5 of GB/T 9789-2008 and relevant regulations.
5.5 Test conditions
The sample shall be placed in the test chamber in the unpackaged, unpowered,
"ready to use" state, or in the state that is specified by the relevant specifications.

Corrosion effect inspection of the test chamber
B.1 Overview
In order to ensure the reproducibility and repeatability of the test results that are
obtained from one or several similar test equipment, performance inspections
shall be carried out. The regulations in B.2 ~ B.7 are applicable to the test
chamber whose volume is 300 L.
B.2 Sample
B.2.1 Select 5 samples; the size of each sample is 100 mm in length, 50 mm in
width, and 0.6 mm ~ 1.5 mm in thickness; the material is a steel plate whose
surface quality is grade FD and designation is DC04, as specified in GB/T 5213-
2019
B.2.2 In order to meet the requirement of the total exposed area of the tested
sample (see 5.4 of GB/T 9789-2008), select two blank samples; the size of each
sample is 400 mm in length, 250 mm in width, and 1 mm in thickness; the
material is the same as that listed in B.2.1.
B.3 Preparation of samples
Before the performance test, use a soft cloth or brush that does not contain
fibers to degrease the sample that is specified in B.2, with petroleum solvent or
other suitable solvents; then, use a balance to weight the sample that is
specified in B.2.1, accurate to 1 mg. If the weighing cannot be carried out
immediately after the degreasing treatment, the sample shall be placed in the
desiccator until it can be weighed.
B.4 Test procedure
Hang 5 samples vertically in the test chamber; hang 2 blank samples vertically
on both sides of the sample in the test chamber at the same time; perform a 5-
cycle alternating test in accordance with the test conditions that are specified in
GB/T 9789-2008.
B.5 Corrosion effect inspection
After the test is over, use hydrochloric acid, whose density is 1.10 g/mL, that is
added with 3.5 g/L hexamine with a corrosion inhibitory effect, (500 mL of
chemically pure hydrochloric acid with a density of 1.19 g/mL plus deionized
