Foreword
GB/T 21655 "Textiles - Evaluation of absorption and quick-drying" is divided into
two parts.
- Part 1. Method for combination tests;
- Part 2. Method for moisture management tests.
This Part is Part 2 of GB/T 21655.
Annex A of this Part is informative.
This Part was proposed by China Textile Industry Association.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of Basic Committee of National
Technical Committee on Textile of Standardization Administration of China
(SAC/TC 209/SC1).

Textiles - Evaluation of absorption and quick-drying -
Part 2. Method for moisture management tests
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 21655 specifies the tests and evaluation methods for moisture
management performance of absorption and quick-drying of textiles.
This Part is applicable to all kinds of textiles and their products. Other products
may refer to use.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Part, constitute the provisions of this Part. For dated references, subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Part.
However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Part are
encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are
applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this
Part.
GB 6529, STANDARD atmospheres for textiles conditioning and testing
(GB/T 6529-2008, ISO 139.2005, MOD)
GB/T 8629, Textiles - Domestic washing and drying procedures for textile
testing (eqv ISO 6330.2000)
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this Part of GB/T 21655, the following terms and definitions
apply.
3.1 wetting time; T
the time from the contact of the liquid with the fabric surface until the fabric
begins to absorb moisture; the time required for the fabric to start absorbing
moisture is defined as the time when the first occurrence of a slope greater than
or equal to tan15° on the curve of moisture content versus time
3.2 absorption speed; A
Annex A gives the basic structural principles and requirements of the instrument.
Instruments that can achieve the same effect can be used.
5.2 Materials
Unless otherwise specified, all reagents shall be analytically pure and water
shall be grade three water.
5.2.1 Test solution. 9 g/L sodium chloride (NaCl) solution.
6 Standard atmosphere for moisture control and
testing
6.1 The atmosphere for moisture control and testing uses the standard
atmosphere specified in GB/T 6529.
6.2 Samples shall be in a state of moisture balance in the relaxed state before
the test. Moisturizing method and requirements are according to GB/T 6529.
General moisture control needs more than 16h, synthetic fiber samples ask for
at least 2h. Samples with a nominal moisture regain rate of 0 do not require
moisture control.
7 Sampling and sample preparation
7.1 The method and quantity of sample collection are based on product
standards or agreed by all parties involved. Cut a full fabric of 0.5 m or more
into each sample. Avoid more than 2m from the ends when sampling. Textile
products require at least 1 unit.
7.2 Cut each sample into two pieces (one for pre-wash test and one for post-
wash test). One of them is washed 5 times according to the 5A procedure of
GB/T 8629, or washed according to the methods and times agreed by all parties
concerned. After washing, dry at a temperature not exceeding 60°C or dry
naturally.
7.3 Respectively cut 5 pieces of pre-wash specimens and post-wash
specimens. The specimen size is (90±1)mm× (90±1)mm. When sampling, it
shall be evenly arranged in the area more than 150 mm away from the cloth
edge. The specimens are not in the same longitudinal and transverse positions
and avoid the defects and folds that affect the test results. If the product consists
of different fabrics, the specimen shall be selected from the main functional
parts.
7.4 Any unevenness on the fabric surface shall affect the test results. When
tp - the water intake time, s;
Ui - the value of the water content change curve at the time of wetted or
penetrated surface at time i;
f - the data sampling frequency.
9.1.2 Spreading speed S
Calculate the spreading speed S according to equation (2). Round off the value
to 0.1.
where,
S - the spreading speed (divided into the spreading speed of the wetted surface
ST and the spreading speed of the penetrated surface SB), mm/s;
ri - the test ring radius, mm;
ti and ti-1 - the time of moisture from ring i-1 and ring i;
N - the maximum number of wetted test rings for wetted or penetrated surface.
9.1.3 Accumulative one-way transport capacity O
Calculate the accumulative one-way transport capacity O according to equation
(3). Round off the value to 0.1.
where,
O - the accumulative one-way transport capacity;
t - the testing time, s;
- the absorption of the wetted surface;
- the absorption of the penetrated surface.
9.1.4 Overall moisture management capability M
