Foreword
GB/T 20501 Guidance system for public information - Design principles and
requirements of guidance elements consists of the following parts.
- Part 1. Graphical signs and relative elements;
- Part 2. Writing signs and relative elements;
- Part 3. Layout plan and area function graph;
- Part 4. Street guidance map;
- Part 5. Portable printing matter;
- Part 6. Direction sign;
- Part 7. Information index sign.
This Part is the 7th part of GB/T 20501.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009
Directives for standardization - Part 1. Structure and drafting of standards.
This Part was redrafted according to the new structure based on GB/T
20501.3-2006 Guidance system for public information - Design principles and
requirements of guidance elements - Part 3. Layout plan and area function
graph. This Part replaces the content of Clause 5 of GB/T 20501.3-2006.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National
Technical Committee on Graphic symbols of Standardization Administration
of China (SAC/TC 59).

Part 7. Information index sign
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 20501 defines the composition of the information index sign;
specifies the design principle, content requirements and layout requirements
of the information index sign.
This Part is applicable to the design of information index sign in urban
entrances and exits (such as civil airports, railway passenger stations), city
traffic (such as public transport hubs and stations, neighborhoods), city public
services and leisure facilities (such as shopping, medical venues, sports
venues, entertainment places, hotels, tourist attractions, car parks) and other
public places. The design of the information index sign in the workplace can
refer to this Part.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T
and Figure 4). The maximum word height of the location information text shall
not be less than the maximum word height of the function information text.
5.2.2 The location information is usually composed of the name and/or
number of the location. The name or number in the location information shall
be consistent with the original plan. Floor number is a common form of
location information, usually composed of "floor number" information and
"storey" information together.
5.2.3 The “number of floors” in the floor number shall be indicated by Arabic
numerals or in Chinese. When using the Arabic numerals, the word height in
the upper storey shall not be less than the height of the adjacent Chinese
characters or letters. The word height in the basement shall not be greater
than the word height of the adjacent Chinese characters or letters.
5.2.4 The "storey" information in the floor number shall be expressed in
capital letters or Chinese characters, and meet the following requirements.
a) when using the English alphabet to represent " storey" information, the "
storey" in the ground storey shall be represented by the capital letter "F",
and the "storey" in the underground shall be represented by the capital
letter "B" (see Figure 1); and.
1) the "floor number" information in the floor number shall be expressed
in Arabic numerals greater than 0, and the ground storey is
expressed as "×F", such as "2F"; the underground storey is
expressed as "B×", such as "B2";
2) when the upper storey is represented, the letter height of the letter F
shall be not less than 0.6 times the height of the adjacent digits and
not more than 1 times the height of the adjacent digits;
3) when the basement is represented, the word height shall not be less
than 0.6 times the letter B and not more than 1 times the letter B
height;
b) when using Chinese characters to express the "storey" information, the
ground storey shall be expressed as "×层 ", such as "2 层 "; the
underground storey shall be expressed as "地下×层", such as "地下 2
层”.
5.3 Function information
5.3.1 The function information is represented by graphical symbols and/or
text. The function information is composed as follows.
- mainly composed of graphic symbols with auxiliary text (see Figure 1);
6.2 When the location information is composed of the name or number of
the area, the location information and the corresponding function information
shall be arranged from top to bottom or from left to right in the order of the
area name or number.
6.3 When the location information is composed of the floor number, the
location information and the corresponding function information shall be
arranged from top to bottom column or multi columns in the actual order of the
floor in the sign layout. When arranged in multi columns, the information of
the next column shall be at the right of the previous column.
6.4 The information index sign on the layout shall highlight the current
location of the area or floor information (see Figure 1 and Figure 4).
NOTE There are a number of ways to choose from, for example, repeating the current
location information in the message name of the information index sign, or designing the
current location information and/or the corresponding function information into different
colors or styles, etc. A variety of methods can be used in order to enhance the
outstanding effect.
6.5 There should be a clear interval between the adjacent location
information in the information index sign or the adjacent function information
corresponding to the different location information.
