GB/T 17928-1999 NATIONAL STANDARD OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ICS 59.140.10 Y 45 Leather - Determination of the stitch tear resistance ISSUED ON: DECEMBER 17, 1999 IMPLEMENTED ON: MAY 01, 2000 Issued by: The State Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau Table of Contents Foreword ... 3  1 Scope ... 4  2 Normative references ... 4  3 Instruments and apparatuses ... 4  4 Test conditions ... 5  5 Sample preparation ... 5  6 Test procedure ... 5  7 Result expression ... 6  8 Test report ... 6  Foreword This Standard is equivalent to adopt German DIN 53331-1980, "Testing of leather - Determination of the stitch tear resistance". On the basis of the actual situation in our country, and under the premise of not affecting the test results, the standard contents of this Standard are compiled to meet the requirements of our country, which is convenient for practical operation. In the production process of leather products, leather clothes, bags, shoes are made after sewing. The determination method of stitch tear resistance is to simulate the stress of leather after sewing for testing, which is more practical than other methods of testing leather tear strength. DIN 53331 stipulates that at least three samples shall be taken in each direction, and the long side of each sample shall be at least 50 mm. For the convenience of users in our country, this Standard specifies that three samples shall be taken in each direction, and the long side of each sample shall be 100 mm. If the to- be-tested leather sample is small, cut a sample whose long side is 50 mm. When the thickness of the leather sample reaches (or exceeds) 1.2 mm, because the thickness may affect the sampling (test hole), a steel needle whose diameter is 1.0 mm can be directly used for test. This Standard was proposed by the State Administration of Light Industry. This Standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Fur Leather Tanning Standardization Center. The drafting organizations of this Standard: China Leather Industry Research Institute. The drafters of this Standard: Zhao Liguo. Leather - Determination of the stitch tear resistance 1 Scope This Standard specifies the determination method of leather stitch tear resistance. This Standard applies to all kinds of leather. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid.
