Foreword
GB/T 16716 Packaging and Packaging Waste can be divided into 7 parts:
--- Part 1: General Rules of Disposal and Utilization;
--- Part 2: Means and Program for Evaluation;
--- Part 3: Prevention by Source Reduction;
--- Part 4: Reuse;
--- Part 5: Recoverable by Material Recycling;
--- Part 6: Recoverable by Energy Recovery;
--- Part 7: Recoverable by Composting and Biodegradation.
This Part is Part 7 of GB/T 16716.
This Part was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part is consistent with EN 13432-2000 Packaging – Requirements for Packaging

Packaging and Packaging Waste – Part 7:
Recoverable by Composting and Biodegradation
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 16716 specifies the requirements for evaluating the biodegradation and
composting of packaging and packaging materials, test schemes, verification of biodegradation,
disintegration determination and quality of composted products.
This Part applies to the evaluation of compostable packaging by enterprises that utilize waste
composting (including the production of biogas).
This Part does not apply to the decomposition of packaging waste in the natural environment
and various residues present in packaging.
NOTE: When some components of the package are not suitable for composting, if they can be separated
by a simple method, this Part can still be applied to the packaging.
