3 Terms, definitions and symbols
3.1 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2900.48
as well as the followings apply.
3.1.1 shell boiler
A boiler that the evaporation heating surface is mainly arranged in the boiler shell, the
burning flame or flue gas is inside the tube and the working medium flows outside the
tube.
3.1.2 boiler proper
A whole that is composed of shell, steam-water separator, heating surface, header and
its connecting piping, furnace, combustion equipment, air preheater, furnace wall,
smoke (air) duct, frame (including platform and escalator), etc.
3.1.3 pressure element
An element subjected to internal or external working medium pressure.
NOTE: The pressure element is the basic unit that constitutes the pressure component of the boiler.
3.1.4 pressure component
A relatively independent component composed of several pressure elements in a boiler
system.
NOTE: Pressure components include boiler shell, furnace liner, combustion chamber, header, water
cooling wall, coal economizer, energy saver, condenser and superheater, etc.
3.1.5 non-pressure element
An element that does not bear the pressure of the working medium.
NOTE: Non-pressure elements include the ones bearing load and the ones not bearing load. Non-
pressure elements bearing loads include braces, hangers, fasteners, etc.
3.1.6 safety appurtenance
Components or devices used to protect boiler equipment and prevent boilers from
operating beyond design conditions.
3.1.7 instrument
A device used alone or in combination with other equipment for display or measurement.
3.1.8 rated pressure
The working fluid pressure at the outlet of the boiler that shall be guaranteed during
long-term continuous operation within the specified water supply pressure and load
range, that is, the rated working pressure or rated outlet pressure marked on the boiler
nameplate.
3.1.9 rated temperature
The working fluid temperature at the outlet of the boiler that shall be guaranteed for
long-term continuous operation under the specified design conditions, that is, the rated
steam temperature or rated outlet water temperature marked on the boiler nameplate.
3.2 Symbols
The following symbols apply to this document.
Rm - the lower limit of material's tensile strength at the standard room temperature, in
megapascals (MPa);
ReL(Rp0.2) - the material's yield strength at the standard room temperature, in
megapascals (MPa);
- the material's yield strength at the design temperature, in megapascals
(MPa);
- the material's durable strength (105 h) at the design temperature, in megapascals
(MPa);
- the material's creep strength (1×10-5%/h) at the design temperature, in
