compared with it, the main technical changes are as follows.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and
specification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marks,
storage and transport etc. of sand for construction.
This Standard is applicable to the sand for concrete and its products and
normal mortar in engineering construction.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Natural sand
Rock particles generated naturally, explored artificially, the sieved particle
size of which no less than 4.75 mm, river sand, lake sand, mountain sand and
desalt sea sand are included, but soft and weathered rock particles are

Rock, mine tailings or industrial waste residue particles, made by mechanical
disruption, sieving and excavated soil, the particle size of which no less than

3.3 Clay content

Content of particles in the sand whose original particle size is larger than 1.18
mm and less than 600 μm after immersion cleaning with water and squeezing
with hands.
3.6 Fineness module
Index of measuring sand fineness.
3.7 Soundness
Capacity of resisting fracture of sand under the action of natural weathering
and other external physicochemical factors.
3.8 Material lighter than 2000 kg/m3

4 Classification and specification
4.1 Classification
According to origination, sand may be classified into natural sand and
manufactured sand two categories.
4.2 Specification
According to fineness module, sand may be classified into thick, medium and
thin three kinds of specifications, their fineness modules are as follows

- medium. 3.0 ~ 2.3;
- thin. 2.2 ~ 1.6.
4.3 Category
Sand may be divided into Category I, Category II and Category III according
to technical requirements.
5 General requirements
5.1 The harmful substances of manufactured sand produced from mine
tailings and industrial waste residue shall not only comply with the
requirements of Section 6.3 but also comply with the relevant environmental
protection and safety standards and specifications of China; they shall not be
harmful to the human body, living beings, environment as well as concrete
and mortar performances.
5.2 The radioactivity of the sand shall meet the requirements of GB 6566.
