Foreword
This standard is a revision of "Prepainted Steel Sheet" (GB/T 12754-1991) on the basis of
summarizing the production and use conditions of prepainted steel sheets in China, and by
reference to "Continuously Organic Coated (Coil Coated) Steel Flat Products - Part 1. General
Information (Definitions, Materials, Tolerances, Test Methods)" (English edition) (EN 10169-
1. 2003), "Continuously Organic Coated (Coil Coated) Steel Flat Products - Part 2. Products
for Building Exterior Applications" (English edition)(ENV 10169-2.1999), "Continuously
Organic Coated (Coil Coated) Steel Flat Products - Part 3. Products for Building Interior
Applications" (English edition) (EN 10169-3.2003), "Prefinished/Prepainted Sheet Metal
Products for Interior/Exterior Building Applications - Property Requirements" (AS/NZS
2728.1997), and "Precoated Hot-dip Metal- and Coil-coated Steel Sheets for Building Exterior
Applications " (ASTM A755 M-03).
This standard replaces "Prepainted Steel Sheet" (GB/T 12754-1991).
Compared with GB/T 12754-1991, main changes in this standard are as follows.
- "Terms and Definitions" of Chapter 3 were added;
- The requirements of designation naming method were added, and designation of
prepainted steel sheet was provided with;
- Hot dip Al-Zn alloy steel substrate and hot dip Zn-Al steel substrate were added, while
cold-rolled baseplate was cancelled;
- High-durability polyester and polyvinylidene fluoride were added for finish paint, while
acrylic acid, plastisol and organosol were cancelled;
- Classification for surface structure of hot dip galvanizing steel substrate and coating
structure was added;
- "Information Necessary for Ordering" in Chapter 5 was added;
- Dimensional range supplied was adjusted;
- The requirements of permissible deviation in thickness of prepainted steel sheet were
added, and that in length, width and shape was modified (see Appendix A);
- The requirements for mechanical properties of prepainted steel sheet were added (see
Appendix B);
- The requirements for types of steel substrate and coating weight were added;
- Classification, adjustment, supplement and perfection for property indexes of top side
coating were carried out over again, and the requirements for property of bottom side coating
were added;
- Description for defects resulted from weathering was added in surface quality;
- Informative appendix "Approximate Designation (Grade) Comparison for Common Steel
Substrate of Prepainted Steel Sheet at Home and Abroad" was added (see Appendix C);
- Informative appendix "Description for Corrosivity of Service Environment of Prepainted
Steel Sheet" was added (see Appendix D);
- Informative appendix "Selection of Prepainted Steel Sheet" was added (see Appendix E);
- Informative appendix "Storage, Transportation and Handling of Prepainted Steel Sheet"
was added (see Appendix F);
- Informative appendix "Machining of Prepainted Steel Sheet" was added (see Appendix
Prepainted Steel Sheet
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and code, dimension, shape,
weight, technical requirements, inspection and test as well as package, marking and quality
certificate of prepainted steel sheet.
This standard is applicable to prepainted steel sheets for building interior and exterior
applications (hereinafter referred as "prepainted steel sheet"), prepainted steel sheet for home
appliances and other uses may refer to it in application.
2 Normative References
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this standard,
constitute provisions of this standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendments to
(excluding corrigenda), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all
parties coming to an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the
latest edition of these documents is applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the
normative document applies.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
Prepainted steel sheet
The product cured through baking after organic coatings are continuously coated on
surface-pretreated steel substrate (at least 2 layers for the top side).
3.2
Steel substrate
The steel strip for coating paints.
3.3
Top side
One of the two prepainted steel sheet surfaces which has relatively high requirements of
color , coating property and surface quality.
3.4
Bottom side
The side opposite to the top side of prepainted steel sheet.
3.5
Building exterior applications
The uses affected by external atmospheric environment.
3.6
Building interior applications
The uses affected by internal environment.
3.7
Hardness
The capacity of coating for withstanding mechanical effects such as scratch, friction,
impact and press-in.
3.8
Flexibility
The capacity of coating and steel substrate for resisting damage under concurrent
deformation.
3.9
Adhesion
The combination degree between coatings or coating and steel substrate.
3.10
Life to the first major maintenance
The time interval from completion of production to the time where the original coating
must be heavily maintained so as to protect the steel substrate.
3.11
Durability
The capacity of coating for meeting the specified life to the first major maintenance.
3.12
Weathering
Increasing deterioration of coating property under influence of service environment.
